Anyone watching BBC "Living with Dementia"?

Evening girls

Against my better judgement, i decided to watch this programme, called "Chris's story". As you know, mum has late on-set Alzheimers and has been in care for 18 months.

Went through hell with her at home with my dad for about 2 years, but now watching this programme, its helped a lot of things in my mind.

This poor guy, Chris, was 52 when diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and has been filmed over a period of 18 months. He's aware he has dementia, one thing mum never accepted and was always angry. He seems to have set so much in place himself, but often loses the plot, gets lost in his house, and moods getting worse. He lost control of his co-ordination and that frustrates him.

I can see so many parallels with mum, and how she must have felt at times, without being able to express it. He goes to respite in a day care home and he said he feels safe there, with no responsibilities. Maybe thats why mum has settled down so well.

Im crying, but its helped me in ways I never thought. I identify with his wife and its getting harder to watch now as he's getting worse. Heartbreaking to see this at a relatively young age as far as dementia is concerned.

Just curious if anyone else is watching having seen family suffer with this and if its helped.

Bizi's back in town!

Helloo Playmates one and all. Not long back from St. Ives, Cornwall. What a fabulous 5 days we've had there. The weather couldn't have been better which is good because the journeys, both ways were a b****y nightmare..
9 hours there and 8 coming back - quite quite awful. I drove both ways (as I'm a control freak)!

However, it was fab to spend some real quality time with some of our family including the lovely little Isla - she's a cracker of a child, so funny and clever. Must take after her great grannie ;) OH and I stayed in a hotel as we like our own space but we spent all day and every evening with them all. Mostly we were in bed by 10pm as the days were spent on the beach in incredible temperatures and we were thoroughly worn out by 10pm.

Anyway, we are home now but OH is off to Devon early Sunday morning for a week's golfing with 'The Boys' - none of whom are under 70 years of age apart from my OH who will be in a few months' time.

I do have lots planned for the week he's away - especially packing for our Mallorcan cruise and stay holiday the week after.......Busy busy busy......certainly living up to my moniker!

I'll see you all for the Good Morning thread tomorrow. It's an early night for me Zzzzzzzz
Bizi's back in town!

Just back from

a VERY COLD few days in Portsmouth with the Grandchildren ........WHY does my ED keep her back door wide open at all times ?? Brrrrrr!! She did start to shut it (and put the heating on ) but we couldn't believe how cold it was --I very nearly took summer dresses with me !
Anyway hope all is well with you all , I'm now going to start trying to catch up with everyone on here !

I just wondered if these are of interest. I see lots of views but no comments so wondered if perhaps the offerings aren't something people here, or teens they know, would be listening to. I'm feeling like something of a nag. :D

Hope is the theme for this week's free audio books.

This week both books are available internationally.

The contemporary book is "The Boy Born Dead". It has a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Audible.

Audie Award, Faith-Based Non-Fiction, 2016
In 1953, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, a baby boy was born - dead. The attending physician set his little body aside and tended to his mother for 18 minutes. Now, more than 60 years later, that boy leads an internationally known ministry that encourages hundreds of thousands every year. The Boy Born Dead tells his incredible story from the perspective of his best friend, David Wideman.
As a teenager in the small town of Liberty, Missouri, in the late 1960s, David Ring grew up with the challenges that come with cerebral palsy, a result of his 18 minutes of newborn silence. Along with his physical limitations, Ring was orphaned and shuffled from home to home, finally landing in an abusive situation that made him feel unworthy of love and, eventually, unworthy of life. But God had a purpose for Ring's life and sent an agent to help him achieve it. Through the friendship of David Wideman, a boy he met in the halls of Liberty High School, Ring found strength he didn't know he had and went on to face his demons, marry the love of his life, and start an international speaking ministry.
Full of hope, this moving story illustrates how friendship and love triumph over adversity. Anyone who faces tough times will treasure this story of hope and courage.

The classic is "Words in the Dust" with a 4.3 rating on Audible.

Zulaikha hopes. She hopes for peace, now that the Taliban have been driven from Afghanistan; a good relationship with her hard stepmother; and one day even to go to school, or to have her cleft palate fixed. Zulaikha knows all will be provided for her "Inshallah," God willing. Then she meets Meena, who offers to teach her the Afghan poetry she taught her late mother. And the Americans come to her village, promising not just new opportunities and dangers, but surgery to fix her face. These changes could mean a whole new life for Zulaikhabut can she dare to hope they'll come true?

Nosy Post Anyone? I Can't Promise a Weekly One but...

...the occasional one's better than none!

a. What colour mascara do you wear? Or don't you wear any at all?

b. What's your mental arithmetic like? Are you good, or do you resort to a calculator? Could you still say your multiplication tables?

c. When did you last swear? Or give a more polite exclamation of shock or surprise?

d. What's the furthest North you've been in the U.K?

e. Do you name inanimate objects, your car for example, or the TV remote?

My answers:

a. Dark brown, navy blue or dark grey. Anything but black; it looks really odd against my aging skin.

b. I think I could still say my tables (in fact, I just tried) but they don't help with my mental arithmetic. It's always been poor.

c. This morning. I went to hang a bird feeder in a tree, and next-door's dog flew at the fence. He obviously thought I was going to invade his territory. I'm not afraid of him, but he really caught me unawares!

d. Probably Fraserburgh, although I can't remember a lot of the places we visited in Scotland when I was a child. I have a vague memory of going to Wick too, but I'm not sure about that.

e. Our car is K.C. (it's a Kia Cee'd), and the TV remote is known as "The Gadget". My iPad is known as Bramley (it's an Apple!), but I can't think of any others.

Over to you.

'tis sparrow-fart on Thursday

And here I am!

Been awake at least an hour an no sign of tiredness. Things on the mind. The new agents (from our
current branch) came to talk with us and view the house and I have to say we were impressed with them both, which was a good start. They did point out though that things are going to be very slow for the next few weeks as people are waiting to see what happens in the Referendum and if the outcome will affect the housing market and if so, how. We had expected that and thought about it already.

The other thing is Puffins. Although we have some rentals in place through word of mouth, we are hesitating over which letting agency to go with longer-term because between them, they either tell you when you can go, therefore cutting out the possiblity of a few days spontaneous holiday for us or they want to tell us what we can charge and most of them also charge the clients a booking fee, which I think is dreadful and they should build it into what they charge us. Anyone use a really good agency that they can mention?

Got to go into town today as we need to open a bank account and they want to inspect us in person! OH also said we need to part while he does "a little bit of shopping", so I guess that's related to our wedding anniversary next week! We will be spending it with 2 of our grandchildren as it's a special anniversary for their parents too, and our SIL has arranged a 5 day break away for the 2 of them and we are going to stay with the girls in Stratford and get them to school and various other classes etc.

What's going on in your lives today?

Wishing everyone a Happy Thursday.

Typical isn't it! Oh well can't do much about it now.

OH and I decided as October in Bruges in 2013 was to wet and cold that we would move our wedding anniversary to June.
We booked up Bruges again earlier this year and are taking my aunt and uncle with us to.

Typical! Now look at the weather here in Kent13324361_10156989492190287_351949255_o.jpg
In Bruges Belgium it isn't forecast as much better for this weekend we are there!
Oh well no chance of changing it now as the hotel would charge us and the euro tunnel has already been booked.
So we will just have to make use for the nearby chocolate museum and cafes and Friets museum. Yes you read it right, it's all about the potato and they serve fresh fries to :p

There are some great chocolatiers there to and this one is one of my favorites

Day 56 Great Rhos Radnorshire

I don't think I've ever been to this county, if so, it's the only I've never been to.

They are hangers on - well they look nothing like us, not sufficiently svelte and glamorous! Ahem....

That is Water-break-its-neck waterfall - odd name but very pretty.

We are in Radnor Forest, which legend declares to have a sleeping dragon, the last one in Wales, sleeping underneath it, kept there by a ring of churches. Woe betide if any of the churches are destroyed.

I'm off to do a bit of dragon spotting - anyone want to join me?

Here dragon, wonder if they like sausages?

Now I wonder where he is?

10486 yesterday

Went to see Paul Sinha yesterday live, from the Chase - really good night, very funny and interesting.

Had a support, Jim Smallman as well, and he was good too.

Not a happy PN this morning

Hi everyone

Managed to change my dental appointment from today to yesterday. He says I need an extraction which is happening today. I am absolutely terrified. Always have been a wimp with such things. Won't be able to eat properly for a couple of days.

Then this afternoon seeing the doctor re the tinnitus. Have been waiting 2 weeks, so might as well take it but the conversation could be interesting! Don't think much will come to that.

Theatre tonight.

Will be happier, if you get my drift, when today is over.

Have a good one yourselves

Have we forgotten anything?

With only a few days to go before YD has major hip surgery we are wracking our brains to think of everything she may need. I know some of you have first hand experiences of having to be immobilised or nearly so after an operation. What would you not have been without?

We've got baby wipes, facial wipes and dry shampoo; puzzle books and stuff to read; easy to get on clothes for when she comes home; and lots of pillows organised for the journey home.

What did you wish you had had or would not have been without? Apart from cutting her toenails beforehand (just to stave off the day when I have to do them), is there anything you would recommend she does in advance?

I've got so much going on in my head at the moment that I can't think straight! To briefly summarise the current state of play................

ED's foot is less painful than it was but we spent 4 hours in A&E the other evening after the GP failed to phone back as requested about a particular problem. Phoned 111 who told ED to get to A&E pronto! Where nothing was done about the problem at all. :(

Mum is now home, with a zimmer frame, and having to keep very still to avoid pain. But she's happy to be home and Dad is coping alright at the moment. Just hope her hip heals well.

And as for the dog - yes he has hip dysplasia, in both hips! It's mild though so his problem is probably a ligament or tendon or maybe even a nerve thing.

It could all be so much worse!

Cold, Wet, Dull Tuesday Afternoon...

Afternoon ladies,

Up early this Morning so I didn't have time to post, we had to take one of the cars in for MOT and Service all to be done this Morning, but yes they still have it and yes we are waiting to pick it up. OH rang them waiting for parts for the Service. It's been booked in a week so why haven't they got everything ready.

Went to Mums and Dads this Morning, lots of errands for them, post a card, pay the papers, banking, shopping. Then when I hadn't any time left to stay for a cuppa Mother wasn't happy. Needed to get my shopping home for D to cook a meal before she went to work.

OH and I took D to work then went off to the Garden Centre for a look around and a cuppa and we shared the cake, we don't feel so guilty when we share a cake it was yummie.

Back home waiting for the garage to ring, just going to catch up on Sewing Bee I can't do that sort of sewing but I like to watch the programme and wish I could sew like that.

The weather is awful today glad to be back home. Enjoy the rest of the Day ladies. xxx

Did you see A Midsummer Night's Dream?

I'm not really into serious stuff on the TV but I was transfixed by this production last night - it really made Shakespeare come alive for me. I loved it.

Did you watch it? What did you think?
Did you see A Midsummer Night's Dream?

Glad I don't have a telly

http://ift.tt/1RHYtWz

Firstly because why on earth, if you were so inclined to do such a thing, would you want it on telly - maybe they are paying and
secondly . You know I say 80% of our staff stay and stay and stay and we can't get rid of them. Occasionally we make a mistake and employ a numpty, but they go in a few months.

He was one of the gone in a few months. I never met him. I am relieved.
Glad I don't have a telly

Morning all,

Bright and sunny , amazing my OH seems to have nothing but rain!!!
Reading thru my previous post l think some of you mistook what l said about the sat nav. It saved us possibly yrs we passed over two motorways on route and they were at a stand still for as long as you could see plus tail backs on the slip ways. So in this case sat nav won. But l agree they do sometimes take you all over the place. My tyre held up over night, so off to get it replaced.
Have a great day everyone. Pauline
Morning all,

Day 55 Shropshire

That Mr tag, he's a one , isn't he?

Started so well, having a nice cup of tea with us, being a bit nervous - well who wouldn't be, meeting the legendary stepsisters on a weekend away?

But don't worry he soon got into the swing of things

No I don't know who that is either, she's not a stepsister - apart from that policeman that was locked in the trunk of the Rv in Latvia, I don't think we have ever fallen out or borrowed each others man...or men...

I think Mr tag is still explaining....

So anyway, Brown Clee Hill

Fairly unmistakeable.

Right lets go to Shrewsbury, it's very good for shopping!

Friday 9265
Saturday 10002
Sunday -forgot bug, but did around 5 hours of gardening - and after all that, you can't really see what I've done...

Wet Monday~ Morning All

Morning , I have a feeling someone will be posting at the same time, but hay ho .

Miserable start to the morning and due to be heavy rain through out the morning. I shall be staying in and getting the boring stuff done, bathrooms ect. Need to do something as I did zilch yesterday. Still I enjoyed catching up on some recordings and reading.

Just me here as all departed for work. I must do some exercise before I do anything else, getting sluggish in my old age.

Have a good Monday everyone and hope you have some sun.

It's Summer and I've brought him out of hiding LOL

Just turned up the volume having let Bocelli out of the closet and placed him in the music box - Summer wouldn't be Summer without "Tuscan Skies"! He's going to have to gargle a lot as he'll be singing frequently from now till September - do you think he would be a disappointment to meet?

Seriously though, isn't it amazing how a little of what you fancy can really brighten up your day. He is a bit of an inspiration considering what he's achieved so how can I not plough on with the housework and the readying of the house and garden for our soon to be guests. Must have Mr M take a look at the sound system as it's sounding rather tinny for some reason - no doubt I'll have sucked up a cable or two over the winter disturbing the acoustics when I pulled them back out of the vacuum cleaner!

I am in a bit of a silly mood this afternoon and needing to spread my cheer around - in fact this musical accompaniment reminds me somewhat of the year I spent here on my own playing music while taking in the sights and sounds of an evening up here on the hill "Home Alone" (hope I don't have to do that again in a hurry). Have to say my surroundings are a bit more pleasing than they were then so I guess we've progressed somewhat although I wouldn't say we've necessarily arrived at where we want to be - it's a work in progress.

Seems to me that the houses in the UK and new tenants are proving to be a work in progress too - two new electric showers (and the cost that comes with it) as both appear to be kaput! Can you believe that our Agents apart from charging 15% management fees per month now say we have to pay them another 15% extra commission on the bills for transferring funds from the rental account to the plumber. I refuse to play and have asked my sister to pop in and pay him as she's not too far away - just another £50 x 2 on the bill - can't work out how it costs so much to do a bank transfer from one account in Central Scotland to another Central Scotland account probably in the same street. The shower in our house has been tinkered with and siliconed back together with the broken fitment screws - I wish they would be more thorough with their inspections at end of tenancies or at least the tenants be responsible enough to tell us they did this - too late now (probably back in India where everything seems tickety boo else they might have stayed longer - thank goodness they didn't - hate to think what state the house would have been in if they had - it was bad enough!

Not going to let it spoil my lovely sunny day - I don't have to look far to know that others are suffering more and I wish they didn't have to so today at least I'm going to shut it out of my over taxed mind.

Off now for a stroll (or a dance) round the garden with a hosepipe. Shall have to ask the trees to slow down a bit or the Sun to shine less brightly else there will be no apricots for the GCs arrival. Have a lovely evening. It's so quiet on here I guess you must truly be making the most of the Bank Holiday! xxx
It's Summer and I've brought him out of hiding LOL

I was amazed and pleased to get this phone call this afternoon.

I've just got a call to re book my consultant hip check appointment as I am now unable to get to the appointment that was booked in for tomorrow evening.

I thought as the hosptial appointment phone lines were closed on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday the same would go for a bank holiday Monday here in the UK.
Not so so now thankfully I am re booked in to see a consultant rheumatologist on Monday 13th June.
Hopefully it help and make some progress to sorting out and easing my deep seated lower back, knee and hip pain.

Over the past few years of making appointments for myself and my late uncle it has always proved a right run around and never straight forwards with either going private or on the nhs.
My hip x-ray results are now back so I will be able to take that along with me

My first porn show....and at 58!!

Well I'm back from a not so subdued hen do in Liverpool.
I absolutely loved Liverpool...even though there was a bomb scare in John Lewis which meant some areas were cordoned off and our 'hop on, hop off' bus had to do a slight detour and one of our party had her hand trapped in a car door which SIL and myself dealt with (bride was heard to say it was good that the 'mams' had come as the youngsters would have panicked!

The city and people were amazing! We did the obligatory bus trip, ferry across the Mersey and visit to the Cavern Club and the weather was fantastic.:D

The worst part was the evening 'entertainment' - and I use the word very loosely. We all paid £30 to see The Dream Boys (wouldn't have been my choice but had to go with the flow) and were expecting a group of scantily clad men dancing on stage but what we were subjected to was a porn show:mad: I have never felt felt so uncomfortable in my life and that was a sentiment echoed by all 20 in our group so it was nothing to do with my age. There were 3 strippers who did things on stage to unsuspecting 'hens' which I believe they could or at least should have been arrested for. It was absolutely disgusting and I don't consider myself to be a prude.:o
We should have walked out but had naively thought that the first stripper was just a warm up act for the main attraction......how so wrong we were. We have of course had a laugh about it all since but I can safely say that was my first and last!!

When in the UKlast year we bought some railway modeling mix to make a mold for the replica so we could close the lid on the box having the object half immersed inside the box. Had to add a woman's touch however as friend suggested lining it with satin lining whereas I thought something more substantial was required to do it justice. I chose grey pigeon grey velvet only for OH to decide once it was installed that the box needed another coat of varnish round the top on the inside. He put masking taped on the velvet, painted then left it to dry but unfortunately the masking tape stuck so well to the velvet that it pulled out the fibres when it was removed.

Today I have relined the box and to neaten up round the edges I sat and hand sewed velvet piping and didn't have a clue how I was going to secure it. Flash of inspiration as I have a glue gun in the cupboard from when I made my halloween outfit last year. Plugged it in then proceeded to glue - what a fiddle but what a surprise when OH came home and saw the box waiting for him on the dining room table. I now however have two scorched fingers! Is there some trick anyone knows so the the glue goes to where it's needed without getting it all over my hands?

A wonderful technique

Just finished Olive Kitteridgeby Elizabeth Strout. A really great novel about a small community in Maine, which has a really interesting structure. It's a series of short stories which are linked by the appearance of the central character. Really clever. Does anyone know any similar novels?

A happier update on my D, Pauline

Well it's been pretty awful up till now my D has definitely not been good, not that it is ever going to be in the case of a cure but in the last 36hrs or so she has seen a psychiatrist, chatting about two hrs about this "tube" ,then the head consultant visited her and went through the procedure again between the tube and the 24hr situation in having to be hundred % careful as there is this line that is direct to the heart and capable of carrying infection straight there. ,and the alternative oral drug which is not so effective but can be improved with exercise., Breathing, chest exercises walking and possibly swimming. Which is a no no with the tube, can't get it wet.!
The out come is she was desperate to have the tube out, the psychologist agreed she is one of those who can't manage something alien in her. So the consultant has agreed but it takes a week! Part of it has been moved out from her neck and they have to reduce the drug from that slowly and at the same time introduce the oral drug means at least another week in hospital. But the change in her is amazing, she's been sick unable to eat in a lot of pain and driving the nurses mad,, suddenly they have this bouncy chirpy woman! Yesterday her son and l took her in the wheel chair downstairs to the shop and even outside for ten minutes!!! We then discovered a floor that is a restaurant and if she doesn't like what's on the ward the (dinner)lady will order her what she wants from the restaurant and bring it up for her . At the moment she thinks she's gone to heaven! I really hope this carry's on it's such a relief.
PS yesterday took an extra hr each way as sat nav avoided the motor ways 4hrs each way!!!!

Sunday, Sunday.........

Morning girls

I'm chancing that no-one else is up at silly o' clock and typing too......it doesn't look very welcoming yet.
outside.

I've woken up with aches and pains so decided to start the day. We're off do D's today for 2 nights, I thought they'd want the weekend to themselves as they're always s busy but seems not, still I let them have yesterday although no doubt they spent the day doing the housework!! We'll have a cooked brekkie in town then, phone MIL then set off.

I don't expect we'll do much today except chatter, but tomorrow we're going to Clacton, well OH and I are, not sure what the kids are doing as they should be decorating. Clacton is where we'll move to, not where I'd like to go but what finances dictate, partner wants to be by the sea and it's near to my D, easy to get to London and some nice shopping areas close by so compromises all round really, anyway, there are a few areas coming up on the housing market that I don't think we've looked at yet so we'll go and have a look.

D is off on Tues so no rush to leave, we can potter back whenever we want to.

Have a lovely day, not sure the forecast is too good.

Don't look at this post if creepy-crawlies bother you!!

We found this Stag Beetle on our garden wall, a little while ago. It was huge, probably about three inches, or more, from end to end.

Since we took that picture we've taken the dogs for a walk, and when we got back it was nowhere to be seen. I just hope it hasn't got into the house!!

Herts, beds, bucks - lunch club

Hi:

Have posted on here before - but maybe not cast the net wide enough??

Have gone through a complete life change over the last few years and am looking to meet new people and make new friends - as circumstances have resulted in losing contact with a lot of people.

Are there any existing lunch (or supper) clubs I could join?? If not - would be happy to help get something started if there are others interested in joining me.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Karen

With my money from my late great uncle I brought this garden mock rattan duo set with matching foot stools.
Was hoping to make use of it over the next few days.

Best wishes to everyone. I hope those with plans and trips away have a wonderful time and safe travels.

Girl lied to get out of giving me a ride

Yesterday before my church group I asked a friend that goes there and lives near me if she could give me a ride home. She said sorry Im not going home to our town afterwards, so I had to ask thepastors wife for a ride home and she ended up having to leave early. As we were leaving I overheard some other girl talking to her saying ishe thinks shes going with the girl who coulnt give me a ride and her asking if she wants to ride with her or the girl that couldn't give me a ride (the girl who was deciding who to ride with lives near me too) So girl who couldn't give me a ride was lying about going back to our town afterwards?? That or she was willing to go out of*
her way to give this person a ride but not me ? Why would she lie to me?? Because of her I had to leave early before everyone else! Because she lied to me

This week's free audio book: Egg & Spoon by Gregory Maguire

12 hours and 43 minutes of listening, and it's Gregory Maguire, so what's not to like.

This audio book is available worldwide, no publisher restrictions. Download period began on Thursday, May 26, 7am EDT and is available for one week.

Egg & Spoon: Elena Rudina lives in the impoverished Russian countryside. Her father has been dead for years. Her brothers have been conscripted into the Tsar's army and taken as servants in the house of the local wealthy landowner. Her mother is dying, slowly, in their tiny cabin. And there is no food. But then a train arrives in the village, a train carrying untold wealth, a cornucopia of food, and a noble family destined to visit the Tsar in St. Petersburg - a family that includes Ekaterina, a girl of Elena's age. When the two girls' lives collide, an adventure is set in motion, an adventure that includes mistaken identity, a monk locked in a tower, a prince traveling incognito, and - in a starring role only Gregory Maguire could have conjured - Baba Yaga, the witch of Russian folklore, in her moving house perched on chicken legs.

Good Afternoon Girl Fridays!!

Didn't have time to make it onto the morning post this morning as we had an early appointment at the Accountants in CalaD'or to do our annual tax return - deep joy!! Well - at least it's done for another year. Then had to sort out some car hire arrangements, and pick up our Escritura (House Deeds) fron the Gestoria. The weather both here and in CalaD'or was hot, and humid this morning, but we stopped for a coffee in Porto Petro, which is only five minutes drive from CalaD'or, and it was quite overcast - the holidaymakers there were not looking quite so chipper as the ones we saw milling around CalaD'or!! By the time we got home, I was glad to get my clothes off and be back in a sarong and knickers again! The pool temperature is now back in the mid 20's, and the heat haze of summer has reappeared over the distant mountains. I have a feeling there will be "no turning back" for the next few months. It seems to have come around again very quickly.

Went on to the cerámica on the way home, to price the ceramic stars I wanted to buy from the gallery in Santanyi last week, but the prices there had rocketed into the realms of madness, so I didn't get any. They were considerably less in the cerámica nearer home, so I bought several and OH is going to put those up for me over the next day or two. I want them for a boring bit of wall on the side of the pool pump house , which you pass on the way to the little courtyard outside the summer kitchen. I could spend a fortune in that cerámica - everything is handmade and painted, and absolutely stunning. CalaD'or on the other hand is just full of production line tourist tat, some of it actually quite obscene. They must sell it I suppose, otherwise it wouldn't be there. Such a shame the majority of holidaymakers don't see the sort of stuff I was admiring this morning, but then few of them come to the small country towns and villages as they don't want to stray far from the beaches.

Easy evening for me tonight, as OH has asked for pizza for supper, so shall just have a baked sweet potato and some tuna, before settling down to Britain's got Talent. After the first one, we simply couldn't stand all the advertising breaks, so we have been recording them and watching them a night behind as it were. We thought Wednesday night's show was the best so far, after an absolute dire offering on I think, it was Tuesdays. Hope everyone has had a good day.

New York!

Hi ladies, well I'm back from my trip tp NY and Washington. (went to visit D ). I'll duck when I've finished typing this...................
Washington was lovely - apart from the shooting at the White House which we were a bit too close to at the time - never senn so many guns appear in seconds! So security works!

But NY.................. I loathed it. Too busy, noisy, crowded and dirty. Try to stopand look at anything and you get mowed down. Most folk pleasant but some very rude. I am not given to swearing but I was driven to tell one young man to Fluff off.
There were some nice bits - don't get me wrong - like C./park and drinks at the top of the Rockefeller.

But the rest? Now I know some of you love it; Please tell me why?

Tin hat on!. Genie.

I'm Melting Here!

Thought I'd go out and dead head pelargoniums and geraniums - not a good idea when it's 30C. There's a nice little breeze but wow have I ended up a hot/dead heavy head - Sun very strong. Have squeezed some lovely oranges and mandarins into a glass (okay I juiced them), chucked in a couple of ice cubes and am off for the shade. Can't do it yet as the boys are still cleaning the pool and I don't want them thinking I'm a lady of leisure.

Apparently 38C is forecast for a small part of Saturday in Thessaloniki - but it will probably bring a storm as there will be cloud and humidity will be high too - supposed to be around 34C down our way and sunshine till next week. Definitely think I will make this a restful weekend sipping cool drinks with a good book!

Stella update on the main board.

Tag, no running away from us to get some peace and quiet. Apparently she's snuck off to Alnwick for a break, so there's only one thing to do and that's join us. Mr tag, will be really pleased. really. ish.

So here we are - The Cheviot, Northumberland

Aw bless the locals have got the flags out for us and there's a path. better for our high heeled hiking boots I feel!

In reality the cheviot range is one of my favourite bits of the UK, beautiful gentle rolling hills, often looking like a child's drawing.

So where are we staying tag?

Ooo, this looks promising!

Kiwi, Newcastle is not far away, for more shopping if you need it after your holiday excursions

Still walking, different path

I'm being sentimental, it'll pass.

A little over thirteen years ago on Valentine's Day, I collected a small Schnauzer who was later named Stella. I picked her up from the breeders, popped her on the front seat of the van already worrying about how she would feel being seperated from her sister and her Mum. She sat. She looked up at me. Gave me a look that said, yeah, this'll do. Curled up and went to sleep. That was pretty much how she was for her life, easy -going. Nothing much phased her and she just ambled through life being affectionate and unobtrusive.

Some of you may be aware she had Spindle Cell Carcinoma back in 2011, big op, fine for a few years, then it came back and she's been kept comfortable since.

She was a bit off colour on Tuesday, but nothing worrying, Wednesday she seemed to be rather listless, took her to the vet and she was running a temperature and had some antibiotics and electrolytes. Her condition deteriorated and she went into shock and the kindest thing was to let her go.

Here she is acting as a chin rest for her half sister

Thrilling Thursday?

Sorry to see those flipping asds ruling the roost again!

Morning everyone. My elderly neighbour's 87th Birthday today so a friend and I have secretly arranged lunch at a posh hotel for her and she was a bit puzzled by it. OH wrote the invitation as she would know my handwriting but she is a little suspicious but looking forward to her surprise nontheless and intends to get dressed up. I shall go and have coffee with her this morning as well to put her off the scent a bit more!

Big baskets of ironing haunting me as well before and after the lunch, I have no doubt!

What has everyone got planned? xx

Well..... I'll be a monkey's uncle!!

And I have proved it this afternoon!!

Perusing June's issue of Good Housekeeping the other day, I read their "one sentence recipe" for Cheats Lemonade Scones, and remarked to OH that I would be a monkey's uncle if that worked!!

As I had the oven on, and the ingredients in stock, I thought on a whim this afternoon I would give it a go, and must admit was amazed at the results!!

Fan Oven 200 Ordinary oven 220.
Sieve 400g/14oz SR Flour into a bowl, and add 175ml/6 fl oz double cream (I used whipping) and 175ml/6 fl oz clear or cloudy lemonade. Knead lightly and turn onto a floured board, pressing to about 2cm/three quarters of an inch thick. Use 5.5cm/ two and a quarter inch cutter to stamp put approx 14 (the dough is quite wet, so I kept on dipping the cutter in flour to prevent it sticking). Bake on a lined tray approx 15 minutes, before cooling on a wire rack.

They are fantastic!! Have managed to restrain OH from demolishing the lot - I made a dozen. Have no idea how they will keep or freeze, so have put some in the fridge, and a couple wrapped up in the freezer, and shall see how they are tomorrow. Frankly it doesn't really matter, as they were so quick and easy to make and only three ingredients, you could make them whenever you needed them to be available.

Definitely a recipe worth keeping.
Well..... I'll be a monkey's uncle!!

Guess what I had for lunch with Sunny in Benidorm?

Had a lovely get-together with Sunny in sunny Benidorm. It was heaving with tanned British holiday makers all hell-beng on having a good time in the gorgeous weather. Benidorm is an amazing fun place. Everytime I arrive there I feel like I have got off a plane and landed at a seaside resort in the UK!! There is very little to remind you that we are in Spain - except for the sun that is! It was fantastic seeing our lovely Sunny again. She is such great company and we always have a good laugh. For lunch, she took me to a restaurant where I had the most amazing................???? Anyone guess?

This has just been released here in the US, streaming on Amazon Prime.

Twice this morning I've seen it on lists of programs you should watch if you miss Downtown Abbey.

As it was shown in the UK in March, I'm hoping to get some opinions from you ladies. Was it wonderful? Did you love it and hate to see it end? Will OH like it as well?

Thanks for any and all comments.

A Night at the Opera

http://ift.tt/25gMclt

How this lot ended up in our little theatre in the outer reaches of nowheresville, i have no idea. But how often do English National Opera singers turn up on your doorstep? make the most of it I say.

I like a bit of opera, lot of people don't. I went with sue11 and a real life person, who had never seen an opera before. I was a bit wary as it was a collection of songs rather than getting it all in context but, it was fabulous, helped by the baritone being an excellent and witty presenter;). And, they both want to go and see a proper opera - so now I have to find a good production to go and see.

Unfortunately they don't tour, ours was a one off, but they are appearing in Sufflok and Church Stretton if anyone fancies a very pleasant evening with world class singers.

This was one of the songs they did, but with just a piano and flute for accompaniement and it was no less impressive for the reduced 'orchestra'!

can't say I'm not eclectic, james, Jack savoretti and Bryan Adams last week, opera this week.

May 25th and my central heating is back on!

I am actually frrrreeeezing today! Went out this morning with wooly jumper on, scarf and woolen coat, long black trousers and shoes and I was still cold. Came back home and switched the central heating on - Crazy or what?
I just cannot get warmth through to my aged bones......methinks I will be putting the gas fire on soon too as I want to watch the final episode of Wolf Hall whilst I'm home alone.

Next week I shall be on holiday in Cornwall - the long range forecast isn't looking too marvellous. Isn't British summer a bummer?

It has been over a couple of months now since my great uncle Ken died. Spring has since sprung and summer is just around the corner.
I don't wake so often now tearful but instead think of his long life and on his last year each day.
I printed out the photos my friend Jo kindly took for me at his funeral. They have gone into and filled up the last three pages of the photo album I did for him.
The last photo is the one that makes me and Jo both smile and cry. The girls in the photo are hers they have the money box that they gave to GU. They all met and got on well with him in the spring of 2014.

Sadly Mildred's MIL slipped away peacefully yesterday with Mildred and Mildred's D by her side. As you know Mildred's MIL had had two strokes and other complications and was very ill indeed. Mildred has been an absolute angel travelling up and down the highways to be with her as much as possible in the hospital and was even prepared to have her MIL in her home to care for her. Sadly it was not to be. Mildred and her MIL had a very special relationship and I know this will be a huge blow to her. Sending loads of positive vibes and huge hugs.

I am nearly going nuts with this this morning. Is there something obvious I should be doing, or has anybody else had the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. chilla - if you are reading this, I did what you suggested this morning.

OH made me giggle

On Saturday, we had the council tax in for Puffins-more or less the same for a rural 2 bed apartment in Devon as for our 5 bed detached in Oxford! Luckily, we have an "owner's group" on FB, so I asked what everyone else was paying as obviously should be the same. Yes, we have been billed double for some reason!

OH went to ring them-oh dear, no phone number on the bill apart from the automated pay line. My friend Google found it for me soon enough so he dutifully rang-and rang-and rang-and rang. Eventually spoke to a woman who told him to email in his query/complaint in instead "as they deal with written enquiries more easily".

"How long till we get a reply from you?" says he

"About 5 working days"

"Roughly about the same time it takes you to answer a phone then?"

"We are very short-staffed, sir"

I could hear all this and was giggling to myself but also thought how unlike OH it was to say something like that. Guess he's just a bit fed up with faceless bureaucracy at the moment.

Day 48 Cheeks Hill, Staffs

Sorry, bit of hassle this morning with jobs and paperwork not tying up and general faff, still better late than never!

Not exciting, but the walk up the hill is pretty enough

I think we forget how remote some places in the UK are,e ven in a relatively populous county.

Well done yesterday Strickers, mega steps

And welcome back Kiwi, glad to hear you had a good break and got some steps in - I'll put you down for 15,000 each day, sounds about right:cool:

12182 + 2.5 hours gardening, which apparently is another 12,000 steps eek - catching you up strickers.

A few of my favourite things in photos

Not being up to much here these past few weeks I have been snapping a few of the things about me and that I enjoy.

The last photo is of the new carpet in our summerhouse. Mr DBVC, son and his GF cleared it out at the weekend and dusted it. Now it is spider free and a cosy place to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of summer.

Good morning from 'lark' hall - any other early birds about?

You'd think at least on one day of the week Ruby would go round the other side of the bed and wake OH but no, it's all girls together - if she's up then obviously I'm up too - fed, watered and alleviated. Have sorted out the packed lunch, made the breakfasts (even boiled an egg for me this morning so no excuses for lack of boundless energy today, what?

Carpets now gathered, collected and gone so I have the massive task for the rest of the Summer of doing the whole floor instead of round and round the carpets in every room now. I would leave them down but it is so hot in the Summer here that just looking at them brings us out in a sweat!

Meeting my friend for coffee early this morning then back to the grind stone. Potted up some lovely flowers yesterday and have placed them along the wall areal round the bar area at the pool - very pretty. I've put the cushions on the garden seat below so looking like a pleasant spot to linger in. Fuchsia pink, mauve and white trailing flowers which will create a bit of therapy when I park myself there as they will have to be dead headed every day. Hoping the recent rain has left us for a while again as it's a bit of a walk from the pool to the house if I need to gather the cushions in a hurry!

Horrible "Boy George" music on the radio now so I think that's my cue to go have a shower and hopefully it will be finished by the time I'm dressed - was never fond of his music.

Hope everyone is well this morning. Have your x-rays found their way to you Debbie? Not long till Friday so hope the visit to your Consultant will bring you relief. How's the nose this morning Rosa? xxx

Spotless...

...or I will be, in a few days, when the treated area settles down.

I had the treatment about three hours ago, and I've already gone from this -

to this -

It's supposed to take a few days before it fully clears, although I can go back for another treatment if necessary. The thread veins are gone; the area just looks a bit red, and that little haemangioma is flat now, and I can't see it any more...but it will take a bit longer to heal, and disappear, than the veins.

It wasn't really painful; it was like a few tiny wasp stings, and it smarted for an hour afterwards, but I wouldn't know I'd had anything done now.

BTW, do you have any idea how difficult it is to take a picture of your own nose!!??:D

Strickers is coming to the Fest-and a grumble about something else for me!

I was so very please to read that SL is coming to Belfast, Yippee-do but the site didn't like the reply from me to her post so it has gone off for "MODERATION"

So what has happened to the "MODERATORS" removing all the abortion spam which appeared last week? They don't even have to look for them, we report the f* things, yet I can't make a post to say I'm glad a friend is coming out to play?

Peeved of Oxford :mad::mad::mad:

Help! I'm after a bikini with normal bra straps and high waisted knickers. Can anyone recommend either a good website or shop?

Windows 10 - I don't like enforced change!!

A message suddenly popped up on my screen this morning telling me not to switch off the machine as it was reconfiguring to Windows 10. Now, several times a message has appeared asking me if I want to upgrade to Windows 10 "whilst it was still free of charge", which I have always said no to, but this morning it decided to do it all of its own accord!!

We have only just bought a new laptop, complete with Windows 10, but I have stuck with this one, as I am familiar with it, and I already don't like this new format. To be fair, after struggling for about an hour, just to try and access my e mails I gave up in sheer frustration, and moved over to the new laptop, as the format on that seems more similar to the one I was used to on this one. To be honest, the main reason we bought a new laptop was because the letters have all worn off the keys on this one, and though it isn't a problem for me, OH was totally unable to use it. I know I am the world's worst technophobe and Luddite, so it was always going to be inevitable that I wouldn't like change, but I feel really fed up that the screen just announced this morning that the reconfiguring was already underway.

Is everybody else who has Windows happy with Windows 10, and it is just a case of getting used to it?

Day 47 Bardon Hill Leicestershire

#

And a MUCH better pic of the high point

It's not a particularly high hill, but because Leicestershire is flat, it looks like it is!

The last wild bear in England was allegedly killed here - well you'd be wild if they'd knocked off all your family as well :-(

We're right next to Bardon Quarry, wehre they quarry pink granite, created by a fault line that runs from Derbyshire to germany

Weekend steps were very poor, had a yukky head cold over the weekend, still sneezing but feeling better. 5633 Saturday, Sunday, don't know, but i did do a fair bit of gardening.
