Hi, I have just found out that my neighbour 's lovely young Labrador is in intensive care a t the nearby veterinary hospital with suspected "Alabama rot". The poor thing is very ill and on an IV drip for 5 days while they monitor her kidneys. Her chances are 50:50.
It was apparently picked up after a walk in nearby woods and several other dogs have been affected and even died. They do not know what causes it but more cases are occurring in this country particularly in the south.
It is a 'flesh-eating' disease which also hits the kidneys and the signs to watch for are lethargy, thirst and lesions on a paw or lower leg.
I thought that I should pass the info on so that you are aware. Maybe you are already xx
