Good Morning World!

Forum Festers and Friends,

Hope you are all tickety boo this morning How's you're eye coming along Maribou? Hope it's just dandy soon - was thinking maybe some Elton John glasses (without the lenses) for your party. A patch would look equally glam but maybe not a good idea to cover your eye. MIL thought she would have to wear a patch to keep it clean but was told it was a "no no".

Will be having I think a quite unremarkable day today. OH did in fact set off for work so will be phoning me in a while to let me know if I can be 'mobile' or if the roads are blocked because of the strike. I think they must be called "General Strikes" because "generally" no one knows what services and amenities will be available so we have to "generally" take pot luck. Feels a bit like dieting but being constantly drawn to the refrigerator or the biscuit cupboard - really don't like it when someone or something means you can't do what you want!

Washing is out on the line and hoping it will dry - bit of a weather change today - grey skies instead of blue and we're forecast rain tomorrow if it doesn't arrive before then. Back however to 17C and sunshine on Sunday we hope.

Reading up on Autism and how best to facilitate easier learning for someone with special needs - really interesting. Was reading a blog by an autistic person who said her greatest difficulty when learning French and Spanish was context which immediately reminded me of the conversation (in Greek) with my intended pupil and her parents about dogs (they have family pets too) and I said how I would miss them "when they go" instead of when they die to which my pupil said "but they're not going anywhere". We had to explain so this gave me an indication too of how important context is to her. It's all stirring up an enthusiasm and curiosity for me to learn more. Doing quite a bit of research and planning so hopefully I will be sufficiently prepared for Tuesday.

Bit of a debacle here right now - do I make marmalade or a cake, both or do I not bother? OH is having some bloods done today to refine his dietary requirements in an attempt to reduce his cholesterol level. A friend of his who had this done recently has improved his health greatly having cut out foods recommended by the Dietician. You have to eat every 3 hours but are only allowed what is recommended. His friend lost around 20 kilos, his sugar and cholesterol levels (he's diabetic) reduced so much he doesn't need his medication right now. The bloods are sent for analysis to a Laboratory in Italy and they can tell from the composition of the blood what foods are not suited to your metabolism. The idea is that whatever has upset the balance is corrected and your body having been finely tuned can carry on thereafter absorbing what it needs more efficiently. His friend had a heart attack which he thought was a stomach upset and needed surgery to open up one of the main arteries in his heart. He was overweight and eating all the wrong things. Not the right thing to say really but the heart attack was in some ways a blessing (Ftou ftou - as they say here) as the recovered man he is now is slimmer and fitter than he has been for many years. Once what has a negative reaction on your body is defined you just don't eat it anymore but are provided with recommendations of equally enjoyable foods to replace that which you can't have if you want to remain healthy. I'm sure the first thing they'll cut out of OH's diet will be CHEESE - which often seems is in his opinion oxygen - and we all need our oxygen! I hope OH has the same success with this experiment as his friend.

Have a good day ye' all. xxx
