I know this should be in the Food section but it's such a long way over there and I can't be bothered with the walk!
I am not a good cook but wonder what type of spices other people use. I usually buy chilli powder/ curry powder etc in the supermarket. But should I make the effort to track down somewhere that sells fresh spices which I assume would be more pungent, aromatic and flavoursome?
At Christmas, I rushed about looking to buy star anise. It's still in my kitchen cupboard and I can't for the life of me remember what I was going to do with it but I'm sure it was going to be great. I blame Gordon Ramsay/Nigella Lawson for filling my head with fantasies about my culinary skills. :D

P.S. I recently discovered harissa paste for Moroccan dishes - delicious.
