Pinch, Punch, first day of the month... morning!!

Good morning all and welcome to April.

Thick ice on car windscreen this morning.. whats going on?

Wonder what April Fools tricks will be around today. Perhaps in a world of doom and gloom, some lightheartedness won't go amiss?

See what you spot today.

Thinking of Rosa today and anyone else who has worries, or is unwell.
Pinch, Punch, first day of the month... morning!!

Good Evening Playmates!

Well, what a jolly day - NOT! I've been looking forward to going to Supper Club for ages. One of the lovely ladies even offered me a lift as she knows I'm not keen on driving at night........Everything was arranged and then BT happened. The engineer was due between 3 and 6 and arrived at 5.40. He then spent almost an hour replacing our box (BT Vision) Apparently ours was very old hence the reason for it shutting down all the time.

Anyway, I had to cancel Supper Club and my lift (sorry Lynsai) :( I did tell a few of the ladies that I wouldn't be going so at least they knew not to wait for me. So, it looks like a crisp butty is on the cards for yours truly!! I've bugger all in, apart from a chicken Madras which I made earlier but it's earmarked for tomorrow night.

Sorry to moan, I'm not really the moaning type. That's life I guess.

Tomorrow I have to be up at first sparrow fart as I am seeing the cardiologist after waiting 5 months - I do hope I don't get 'white coat' BP...that's all I need.

Fingers crossed please xxx
Good Evening Playmates!

Late Reporting for Duty!!

No wifi signal all day until now. apparently according to our service provider, one of the transmitters somewhere had been knocked down, so lots of people in the same position. Just got it back, and wanted to check on Rosa's situation before I did anything else. Such a sad situation, but thank goodness she got there in time yesterday, and has been able to reassure herself that Clutterbug is being cared for with kindness and dignity in these final days.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year here so far - 30 degrees. We went to our Little beach in the late afternoon with the intention of getting a coffee, but every seat and table was taken, and there was a queue of people waiting for the next one to be vacated!! Several people in the sea, which looked like a sheet of blue satin, and the distinct haze of summer, and whiff of suntan lotion in the air!! The pool temperature has now gone up to 18. Today hasn't been quite so hot, and there has been a Little breeze, which wasn't around yesterday, but it's still been a gorgeous day, and much warmer than it should be for the end of March!! Went for my walk this afternoon, and my Mallorquin neighbour greeted me in the lane, carrying a bucket, with one spear of asparagus in it!! She was saying that this exceptionally warm and dry Winter has meant no bulbs flowering, which I had only posted about on here yesterday, and very Little orange blossom on the trees, which will not bode well for the citrus fruit next Winter. She hadn't been able to find any wild asparagus anywhere except for this one spear, so the bucket was definitely rendered redundant!!

Hope everyone has had a good day.
Late Reporting for Duty!!

Anniversary update

Thank you everyone for your good wishes for our anniversary yesterday (and cards, messages and gifts).

As I said, we had a couple of days away in Lincoln. Took us about 2.5 hours but was worth it. Had a fab hotel just outside the centre in its own ground, very tranquil and excellent. Very relaxing.

We did the Castle and Cathedral visits yesterday. Parked fairly near but couldnt believe how steep the hill was even from there. It is very touristy but very dickensian and quaint and well maintained. Climbed to the turret of the castle which scared me to death and couldnt look over the edge (have photo to prove it):o.

When we entered the Cathedral there was a notice saying part of it was closed for a funeral (apparently she was either in the choir or worked in the church). The choir was amazing just hearing that singing was very moving. We walked down the side of this chapel and I lit a candle in memory of my dad. Then we were told we couldnt walk back as the coffin was being brought out.... just sitting there and watching brought back memories) and i couldnt hold back the tears. There was a few musicians playing also.

Then we walked down the very steep hill into the town to find somewhere for lunch... and somehow I managed to fall up some steps! Thankfully nothing broken or bruised.. just my pride.:o Walked back up hill to Cathedral and had our lunch there.

So Steppers, had I got a pedometer with me, i would have racked up a few miles I reckon! My legs ache today.

Now back home butwas lovely to get away from it all and enjoy our time together. ;)

Never really liked him until I found out he had two schnauzers at which point he became a Comedy god.

Another update, and a huge thank you.

I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your support, your emails, texts and pms, and all the posts on the Forum.

As S00ze kindly mentioned, I did get to see Clutterbug yesterday. Poor Mr Rosa drove all the way home, in his truck, from Cambridge, at 4.30 yesterday morning. He then had to jump in the car, and we drove from Reading to Margate, and took the dogs with us. I went into the hospital, and Mr R went off, with the dogs, to find somewhere to walk, and to pass the time.

Clutterbug was still in CDU when I got there...but he looked so old and frail, I walked past his bed; I didnt recognise him.

He has definitely had a massive stroke, and is on end of life care. He's completely unconscious, and doesn't respond to anything. He's on a specialist air bed, mainly because he's very thin now, and they don't want him getting pressure sores. Whilst I was there, he was moved into a proper ward, but even being wheeled, on this bed, through endless hospital corridors, and being manoeuvered into position in the ward, didn't elicit a response. Because he has no cough reflex, he's on a medication pump to try and keep his chest clear, but apart from that, he's just being monitored, and turned regularly. Basically, he just looks as though he's sleeping. I spent about six hours with him yesterday...but he obviously had no idea I was there.

He's not deteriorating quite as quickly as they first thought, so it may be a day or two before he passes away. The hospital will contact me immediately there's any change, and Mr R is back at work today, but only doing local deliveries, so can get home quickly if needed. I shall go and see Clutterbug again on Saturday, if he's still with us.

The Staff in the ward are wonderful; very caring. They even looked after me when I had a bit of a tearful meltdown, and a nursing assistant sat with me in the visitors room, and provided tea...and tissues!

I will try and keep you all posted.

Thank you again for your kind thoughts.
Another update, and a huge thank you.

Good morning Thursday

Was going to let someone else start the morning post but then I would have been late back on the forum.

OH and I have been so good this week I think we will treat ourselves to a coffee and toasted teacake! I know, we're impossible! I have to pick up a prescription and OH wants to go to the library to see if he can find some information of some talks going on, so really are forced to have coffee out aren't we?

Other than that, all quiet in the PN household. Filled the vacuum drum with Tommy's hair yesterday and that was just downstairs! Might clean the bathrooms today. Oh joy!

Hope you have a more exciting and interesting one than me!
Good morning Thursday

Good morning all

News of Clutterbug

Have heard from Rosa who has just arrived back home. He is unconcious but not deteriorating further and is very comfortable. They saw the scans for themselves and know he will not recover from this. She's too tired to post so asked me to.

We are thinking of you all, Rosa, Mr. R and Clutterbug. Hope you all 3 have a peaceful night. Much love xx

Free audio books all summer long

I mention this every summer. It's a program to promote teen reading so most of the books are considered Young Adult, which these days means there's a teen as the or one of the main characters, so classics like "This Boy's Life" are now YA. Last summer one of the books was Daphne DuMaurier's "Rebecca".

Anyway, each week starting in May, the give away 2 books: a contemporary YA title paired with a classic or older title with a similar theme.

It's completely legitimate, no spyware or virus dangers from the downloads. The books are provided by the publisher/author and the program is promoted by the publishers on Facebook and Twitter. You can download titles to your phone or computer or both, you can listen on your phone, transfer to an MP3 player, or burn to CDs if you like as you own the books once you download them.

All you need is to download OVERDRIVE to your phone or computer and sign up for email or text alerts at AudiobookSync.com. Then just download the books your are interested in.

Get yourself down to Hull

http://ift.tt/1SvTlIo

but not till 9-10 July 2017 when Spencer Tunick is unveiling his latest art exhibition. No doubt he will be looking to enlist people for his exhibition if you fancy being a contributor rather than a voyeur, er viewer, I meant viewer....

I've got something on ( besides clothes ) both those days .
Get yourself down to Hull

Good morning whatever day it is.

Wednesday I think. My phone is too far away to check! What with the easter break and retirement, one day just merges into another.

Slightly sad feeling on the forum today with the news of Clutterbug. It was so nice Rosa spoke to him on the phone yesterday, even if she doesn't get down to see him in time.

All the usual and nothing new happening in the PN household. When the kids went to Oz, they left their sofas with us to look after, in case they were back home after a year. Of course they are not and I don't think they ever will be. So I have 2 Ikea sofas I don't want, with white covers that need washing and are hell to get off. Doesn't help that Tommy has adopted one of them. We have put throws on but they still get mucky. Washed them yesterday but today have the struggle of getting them back on.

Other than that need to do a Sainsburys shop to stock up on bread, milk and porridge.

Have a good one
Good morning whatever day it is.

Happy Anniversary Mr and Mrs Amelica.

Wishing you and Mr.A a very happy Anniversary, AMelica. I hope you have a wonderful day today , my lovely friend, celebrating this special occasion. As you know I am not able to do pictures on here but if I could there would be a big bouquet of spring flowers for you!
Happy Anniversary Mr and Mrs Amelica.

A Sad Update

I spoke to the Neurologist earlier this evening, and poor Clutterbug has had a massive intra-cerebella haemorrhage, or stroke. It's a huge bleed...and there's no coming back.

They were very good about talking to me on the phone, and explained everything. They think it's possible that the lymphoma has spread to his brain, but there's so much blood they can't tell what's actually caused this huge bleed.

Sadly, he's not expected to last the night and no heroic measures will be taken...he'll be allowed to slip away. He's been put on the end of life pathway, so he's comfortable, and being looked after. He's being moved to a quiet area where he will be peaceful.

Mr R is coming home first thing, and we'll dash down to Kent. If we're lucky we'll get there on time. If we're not...well, Clutterbug knew I wanted him to come and live near me, so he knew I cared about him, and I spoke to him yesterday on the phone, and we had a little laugh, so those are the things I'll remember.

I may not be around for a while, but you'll know where I am. Thank you for your posts, your pms and your emails, my friends.
A Sad Update

Your thoughts and prayers please...

An hour ago I was thinking that life was looking up. But now...it isn't.

I've been contacted by Clutterbug's carer to say that he was found collapsed across his bed. He was fitting badly, vomiting and had wet himself. He'd also got a blown pupil. She dialled 999, and the paramedics took one look, and have rushed him to Margate hospital; the think it's a stroke. The paramedics told the Carer to advise his next of kin to get there quickly. But I can't. I don't drive, Mr R is away, and I'd have to kennel the dogs.

Clutterbug has just arrived in A&E, and the Nurse-in-Charge is going to call me back shortly. At the minute, you know as much as I do.

Our lovely Dad suffered a massive stroke, and was a complete invalid for three years before he died. I couldn't bear it if that happened to my brother, on top of all his other problems.

Your positive thoughts, and prayers (if you're so inclined) for him would be much appreciated.

Hello everyone

Hi everyone, look who Storm Katie blew in! My namesake really rattled our doors and windows but thankfully no damage.I am having yet another quiet afternoon as I recover from Shingles and as I am feeling a bit better I thought that I would say hello. Mr K is pottering gently in the garden, bless him. His recent MRI scan didn't show anything conclusive regarding the prostate cancer but it showed a possible lesion on his hip so we are now waiting for the results of X-rays on that and they are going to do more blood tests in a couple of months to monitor the prostate situstion as he wasn't keen on having a biopsy at this point. I don't know whether he is right or not but it his decision and I hope that it will be ok. Meanwhile his first consultation for his hernia is not until the end of May! My job is to stop him from overdoing things in the meantime which is not easy as he is such an action man! I have convinced him to get someone in to relay the patio and side path thank goodness as he had planned to do it himself. We have also arranged to have new blinds fir the conservatory and an awning for the patio. If we can't go on holiday until all the hospital appointments are finished with we will at least be able to enjoy the garden.Actually we have rented a house in the Lake District for a week and YS, DIL and GC are coming too. It will be a kind of halfway house so that BIL and SIL can bring FIL down from Scotland to see us all there to meet his great grandchildren for the first time - he was 90 last week bless him!I have been peeping in from time to time but haven't felt up to posting. Hopefully I will get back to normal (whatever that is) soon.Anyway, I will say cheerio for now, take care xx
Hello everyone

A Relief...and a Question

Some of you know that I was given a two-week fast track appointment to the Dermatology Clinic, recently, to have a mole-type thing removed my from my back. I was also given a thorough skin check at the same time; they were happy with all the other marks and age spots, but the worrying one was removed and sent for checking.

I've just found out that it's benign! Yay! It is just a mole, and it looks as though I've just scratched it, what is what made it bleed. It's not sinister at all!:) I've spent several weeks worrying for no reason...but I'm so glad I got it checked.

Whilst I was at the clinic, I also had a little lump on my nose looked at. It's been checked before, and I've been given a couple of diagnoses, but I've now been told, definitively, that it's a naevus and nothing to worry about. However, it's the size of a very large pin head, bright red, and stands proud from my skin. It's right on the tip of my nose, and basically it looks like a big spot!

I was told that, two years ago, it would have been removed there and then by the NHS, but it's now classed as a cosmetic procedure, and they don't do it any more. It's only a little cauterisation and takes no time at all.

I'm so fed up trying to cover the wretched thing, and I am always aware of people noticing my "spot", so I've decided to go privately, and I have an appointment on Thursday for a consultation...which is £200, and that's without the cost of the actual procedure.

Am I just being vain? Is it worth the money? Would you do it if you were me?

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.
A Relief...and a Question

This has never happened ever before in March!

Nine Centimetres of snow inland from us in March! They forecasted it, but I never believed it! The rain here was very strong on Saturday evening, and went on for hours, but really never thought snow would happen.

Now outside again, it is looking black as pitch, and so cold inside the house that I am sitting with my thick dressing gown on.

At last, it looks as if we can expect a cold wet winter, which we were hoping for. Well, OH and I at least. I am sure there are those out there who are wishing for more sunshine. Some just can't get enough.

We went to the nursery to buy some plants a couple of days ago, and one of the helpers was saying that one area only had enough water till the 17th April!

Here is the area which had the snow, on top of the Matroosberg, near where we used to live. Are any of you getting snow where you live?

Dilema.

Oh dear, I am not coping with my new dog at all. George is a sweet heart. A small Maltese, 2@1/2 years old whom I have had for 2 weeks. He was a stud and a show dog. He cost £400 but the breeder said I would get the money back if I returned him with in a week. Actually I don't care about the money.
He walks on the lead well, loves other dogs of any size and sits calmly in the car or in a restaurant.

Problem is that he screams non-stop if I am out of his sight. Even if I go to the toilet or shower and he is on the other side of the door. When I put the TV on he is now barking like mad at it if a sound is made that he dislikes or he takes a dislike to a character.
He has never been toilet trained so soils every where.
I have read two books on dog behaviour and training and followed it to a T, but it makes no difference.
I spoke to a dog behaviourist yesterday and discussed it all. She said she charges £250 but could not guarantee that she would succeed. She said it was severe separation anxiety which is very difficult to cure.

I am really exhausted. I love our walks and he is so sweet, but have to admit I am feeling very depressed about it.
The breeder is happy to have him back. I am so tired and down that I cannot think clearly.
Any advise or views ? Thanks.
Dilema.

Who will admit to....

...the number of eggs, chocolate bunnies, hot cross buns etc. they got through over the weekend?

I'm feeling quite virtuous as I don't really like chocolate, so I only had two hot cross buns. One on Good Friday, and one on Saturday.

I did, just to do something silly, hard boil eggs for our lunch on Sunday, in water containing red food dye (like my Mum used to) but, as they had darkish brown shells, they turned out to be a rather unappetising shade of maroon, instead of the delicate pink shells that I remember!:p

Go on then...what was your Easter goodie count?
Who will admit to....

Hijacking in Larnaca

Don't seem to have had a full blown hijacking of a plane for a long time.

Some passengers have been released, leaving four non Egyptians and the crew on board. Usual roumours that there is a bomb on board.

Fingers crossed for a peaceful resolution to this one, though given the propensity for blowing oneself up these days, who knows.

Helllo ……Hello ….. Hello? …… H-E-L-L-O (IN A VERY LOUD VOICE) …..

Good Morning Ladies ,

It's 10 am here and I was hoping for some company with my coffee but it seems you are all otherwise engaged/sleeping/flown the coop/can't be bothered to remove the Marigolds?

Hope everyone is well and that Storm Katie has now dispersed, moving over for some sunshine, that the damage has been minimal.

Have just hung out the wash and am waiting patiently to hear a pin drop as it's so quiet that wouldn't be too difficult. OH is off on 'one' (Site Office today - won't be back till late evening), the girls are back and sleeping and I am toiling over what to do today - plenty too choose from but all involving elbow grease and I'm just not in the mood! Slept like a log last night and OH made his own breakfast, didn't require a ready made lunch (eating with the boys, hopeful the taverna can supply plain rice and salad), so he let me sleep on which has thrown me completely. I have a lesson to prepare for this evening and that's about that!

Hope you all have a good day. I shall sit back, click on "Your Lives" in a minute and see who may have pipped me to the post as is the way of it! xxx

The Summer Before the War

Is anyone else reading this or thinking of reading it or has finished it?

I've only had two sessions with it and am already a third of the way through it, as I'm enjoying it so much. The characters are so varied and interesting. I grabbed this one the day my library got it in as it's Helen Simonson and I liked "Major Pettigrew's Last Stand".

----

East Sussex, 1914. It is the end of England's brief Edwardian summer, and everyone agrees that the weather has never been so beautiful. Hugh Grange, down from his medical studies, is visiting his Aunt Agatha, who lives with her husband in the small, idyllic coastal town of Rye. Agatha's husband works in the Foreign Office, and she is certain he will ensure that the recent sabre rattling over the Balkans won't come to anything. And Agatha has more immediate concerns; she has just risked her carefully built reputation by pushing for the appointment of a woman to replace the Latin master.
When Beatrice Nash arrives with one trunk and several large crates of books, it is clear she is significantly more free thinking - and attractive - than anyone believes a Latin teacher should be. For her part, mourning the death of her beloved father who has left her penniless, Beatrice simply wants to be left alone to pursue her teaching and writing.
But just as Beatrice comes alive to the beauty of the Sussex landscape, and the colourful characters that populate Rye, the perfect summer is about to end. For despite Agatha's reassurances, the unimaginable is coming. Soon the limits of progress, and the old ways, will be tested as this small Sussex town and its inhabitants go to war.

I am sick to death of seeing so much on all topics written by unpronounceable 'members'. Daily we are having to bump up proper topics and ongoing threads. I'm surprised that us genuine members are not leaving in droves!!

The Murder of a Good Man.

In the suburbs of Glasgow a Pakistani shop keeper was stabbed and murdered in a racist attack outside his shop. He was a deeply devout Muslim who was adored by his customers. A fellow Muslim man aged 32 years has been arrested.
Asad Shah (40 years old) was an avid supporter of integration of all religions and sent his Christian customers Christmas and Easter cards.

Donations of £50,000 have been donated to his family which I think is wonderful.

I hope some honour is bestowed on Asad for all his continual efforts to bring peace , love and harmony to this country which he respected and loved.

Rest in Peace Asad and may your God be with you.
The Murder of a Good Man.

A Poem for You.

This is the last verse of a poem by John Clare. I discovered it when I was 13 years old and sent it to my daughter yesterday as she was in an exhausted state after over- working for too long.

I hope that when you need this it will come to mind.

I long for scenes where man has never trod;
A place where women never smiled or wept;
There to abide with my creator God,
and sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept:
Untroubling and untroubled where I lie;
The grass below...above the vaulted sky.

In peace and love I send you this.
A Poem for You.

Good Morning Monday and Home Sweet Home

How sweet indeed is home when you've been sitting on a motor bike (except when you're sleeping) for three days!

New experience this time - coming down a mountain, crash helmet visor blanketed in snow (thank goodness for heated rear) with snowflakes melting on your knees! Set off on Friday and haven't driven more than 20 minutes and the rain begins- for the duration (12 hour journey with two half hour stops and another 1 hour stop for lunch). We reached an altitude of more than 1500 metres and arrived at the hotel in the middle of a forest after too many kilometers on a dirt track in the dark dodging potholes and the falling rocks that slid down the mountain. Hotel was in the middle of nowhere which I realized when we woke next morning. There was really nothing to do or see so of course Saturday again was spent on the bike (with the usual "refuel us" stops). Visited a Monastery which was closed except for the little church in it's grounds. Not being particularly religious had OH light candles for the children (34 and 32 respectively) and GC. We left the hotel just after 8.30 am and arrived home just after 9pm with all the other traffic returning from the 3 day break - looked like there was a big fat red snake (lights) in front of us as far as the eye could see, 3 lanes chock-ablock and of course (Greece) hard shoulder was lane number 4 for the idiots who thought they shouldn't have to queue and could fly past very one else then cut in. Poured with rain for the better part of the journey. Suggested we cut off before joining the last stretch of motorway and drive over the hills to home - bad idea - howling gales and rain, pitch black, visibility almost nil and more bend than road. Think you all get the picture!

Have to pick up the dogs now and do a shop - new week, new diet for OH so I need to stock up on fresh air me thinks as this is big detox week. Will relax on the Domestic front and try find the calm I lost from our excursion - I truly think I deserve a medal or a Best Wife Award of some sort (I did have the offer of going passenger in someone else's car and refused it so if I suffered then if was probably self inflicted for the most part). Can always tell the GC's that their granny did do the Indiana Jones bit - makes for funny stories at cuddle time.

Hope you all had a nice Easter and that you enjoy the coming week. xxx

Update on Treadmill

Today I bit the bullet and got on our latest buy, a Treadmill. OH put it on (1) for me, and whilst it looked very slow from a distance, when I got on it, I knew at last what it felt to have the earth move under my feet.

I clung on like a limpet, and managed to lengthen my stride. So far, I am ashamed to say that I can only manage to stay on there for one and a half minutes! I did try twice more, and got a bit more confident.

What I have found, is that it isn't like walking really at all, because ones body moves on a path or a road, but here, the belt is moving as well, albeit slowly. My arms seem to be taking the strain, and I think, unless things change, I will be sprouting muscles like Popeye!

OH had a go on it, and even jogged! I then suggested he put it on programme six, which started fairly slow, but changed every couple of minutes getting faster and faster until it got to level five. By this time, he was walking faster than I had even seen him, quite a sight! Then the speed started to get gradually slower.

It is a good job he had a good work out, as the wind here has got so strong, and it is raining. They say there will be very heavy showers, and 9 cm of snow on certain mountains to the South - that is not us, but nearer where we used to live. We may even get thunder and lightning.

In all the years we have lived here, there has never been snow so early, but for me, anything is welcome, so let it pour!

Update on Treadmill

Are supermarkets open Easter Sunday?

As I have a poorly OH in bed and have been ministering to him all day - upstairs, downstairs, etc etc...making warming broth, cold drinks and dispensing cold remedies. I haven't managed to get out all day - also it's been blowing a hoolie and piddling with horizontal rain. I know, I hear you say, excuses, excuses! Anyway, I need to pick up some extra chocs, a bottle of vino collapso and some flowers for tomorrow.

I'm usually more organised than this .................yes, really ;)

My question is - are supermarkets open tomorrow do you think?
Are supermarkets open Easter Sunday?

Sugar free flapjacks and sticky toffee pudding

As promised here are the above récipes.

Flapjacks

4 overipe bananas, 3tbs honey,4tbs crunchy peanut butter, 2tsp vanilla essence, 200g dried fruit, 300g porridge oats, 3 tbs coconut oil ( have also made these using sunflower oil, at Pauline's suggestion, which is much more economical if you haven't got coconut oil in the cupboard)

Mash the bananas, then add the other ingredients and mix well (I do all this in the mixer)
Grease 18 x 25cm tin, and pile mixture in flattening it down.
Bake for 35 mins at 200 or 180 fan. Leave in tin for at least 15 mins after removing it from the oven. Cut into bars/squares, which ever suits you. Freezes well

Sticky Toffee Pudding

250g Medjool dates, pitted and chopped. 200ml boiling wáter, 100g soft butter, 250g ground almonds ( you could substitute ground rice and a few drops of almond essence for the ground almonds quite successfully - I often do this when a récipe, with the exception of when I make marzipan, calls for gound almonds - much cheaper too). 1.25 tsp baking powder, 3 beaten eggs

Grease and line a 18x25 cm tin with baking parchment. Soak the dates in the boiling wáter and leave for 10 minutes. Place the dates and their wáter into mixer, and add butter, ground almonds/ground rice and almond essence and the baking powder, and blend until smooth, but with a Little texture. Beat in the eggs. Bake at 170 or 160 fan for 35 minutes, then cover with baking parchment and leave in the oven for another 15 minutes. whilst this is cooking, make the sauce.

Sauce - 130g dates pitted and chopped, 350 ml boiling wáter, 75g butter.
Soak dates in the boiling wáter for at least 10 minutes.Drain dates, retaining the wáter, and place dates and butter in blender - blend, then slowly add the wáter until it reaches the desired consistency
I then spread half the sauce over the pud when it came out of the oven, and warmed through the remaining half to serve separately with the pud. Creme fraiche or Greek yoghourt is a good accompaniment if you don't want to use ice cream/cream. I cut this into 8 portions, but they were over generous, so would go to 12 next time. Am going to put some in the freezer to see how it freezes...

Do these do anything for you?

This really should be on Your Looks but I thought there was more chance someone might read it on here.

I had an email from them as I've done click and collect occasionally, so opened it to see if there was anything I liked the look of. I don't normally do dresses but clicked on the plus size ones and this is what I found!

http://ift.tt/1MrsxK9

TBH I wouldn't be seen dead in any of them based on what I see here, maybe it's just me but they seem to have completely lost the plot. I do buy things from there sometimes and got a nice shirt a couple of weeks ago, I know everyone's tastes are different but I can't imagine anyone wearing some of these.
Do these do anything for you?

Happy Anniversary Mr and Mrs Plasmo

I do hope that despite your ongoing health problems, Plasmo, that you will both be able to enjoy your special day today. A very Happy Anniversary to a lovely couple. Sorry I can`t do pictures on here but imagine a huge bouquet of Spring flowers.

Good morning Saturday

You can tell I am home, waking up much earlier.

Gorgeous day yesterday but seems we are paying for the fact as it is grey this morning. Having my nails done and then want to pop into town. One of my oldest friends' daughter has just had a little girl and it is the perfect excuse to buy pink! With 2 sons and 2 grandsons haven't had the opportunity before.

Talking of the family, ES and co in Oz are on a camping holiday this weekend. Know I shouldn't laugh but their second day was a complete disaster, not helped by it raining. Apparently ES freaked when he got a leach on his foot, the kids freaked at leeches on the beech, DIL had a load of fish guts tipped over her feet, GS1 trod on a bee and it didn't like it, and finally GS2 fell off a swing and broke his wrist, which is now in a plaster cast. You really couldn't make that up! Just seen the pictures of their 3 rd day and things are much better.

We desperately need new sofas and OH did suggest we go to Next Home shop in Southampton. Very tempting but I think it is foolish till we sell this place and, more importantly, find somewhere else to live. I would hate them get ruined if they had to go into store. So have got to remain patient - difficult!!

Have a good one
Good morning Saturday

Do You Eat Meat on Good Friday.

When I was a child, no-one ate meat on Good Friday, it was always fish, and the local fish and chip shops used to do a roaring trade. It was always difficult for me, as I hate the taste and smell of fish.

However, I've always kept to the tradition; Mr R will be having sea bass tonight, and I'll have a cheese salad.

What will you be having today?
Do You Eat Meat on Good Friday.

What are you doing over Easter ?

Off to meet 5 friends this morning for coffee, and George the dog is coming to. That restaurant allows them and their scones will be freshly made and yummy.
Lunch with Stuart tomorrow at Troon in another dog friendly place and a walk on the beach.
Nothing on Sunday. Burns Museum on Monday for coffee and plant/book sale, with Jenny.

What are you doing ?
What are you doing over Easter ?

Morning all,

Overcaste here this morning, and colder but tomorrow it's suppose to go right back up!!! Colds anyone!!? Physio in ten mins. Then I'm going to trail my OH around the shops. Have a good day and good health.
Morning all,

Good Friday good morning

Morning all.

Got home about 4.30pm yesterday, having left at 11am, while the plumber sorted our new tap! He arrived an hour late which was annoying but at least it is done now. Traffic was busy but worse heading west than east.

Not sure where will be open today. Hoping everywhere. It's 2 weeks since we have been able to amble down the road for a coffee and toasted teacake, so better sort our withdrawal symptoms!

If it remains dry, will tidy the garden as the forecast for the rest of easter weekend is dreadful.

Have a good one

Herbs, Spices, Jars, Pots and Potions

Just out of interest, besides the basic pepper and salt what do you use a lot of in the kitchen in the way of herbs and spices? And what jars and tins do you always have plenty of.

Here I power through cracked pepper. For Roasts I always sprinkle on lots of Moroccan spices. For potato salad, pasta and the likes I use Thai spices.

For things like scalloped Italian potatoes I always have tins of sweet capsicum flavoured pasta sauce as it seems less bitter than other pasta sauces. In fact I only buy that flavour for spag bol and any other pasta dishes.

I always add tonnes of nutmeg to jazz up Leek and Potato soup. I always add a tin of asparagus to Spanakopita and sometimes in little spinach pies too.

Basic staples are always tins of spaghetti, tinned tomatoes. Tins of salmon and tuna too.

I always have a lot of Greek yoghurt for adding to things like curry paste when marinating shoulder lamb chops.

I seem to use a lot of Lemons in cooking as well.

Has anyone heard from Mildred?

The last time she posted was about 10 days ago when she was going to see her MIL who was in hospital with a suspected stroke. Hope everything is OK.

Big fright this week !

As you all may remember,at the beginning of February I had a cataract op',and all was going well.Had my follow up appointment and was told that the other eye could be done now, although it was nowhere near as bad as the first.Decided I may as well get it over with, and booked it for soon after I get back from holiday in May.(The waiting list would have encroached on the recovery period)

Nearly 2 weeks ago,I went onto my balcony to put a finished flower pot out there. As I bent down, the wind caught the very heavy door and smashed my head into the railings,I saw stars ! Came in,sat down for a bit,and did wonder whether it would have affected my eye. Could,'t put my finger on or explain it properly, but it didn't feel right.Anyway,1 week later,Monday evening,I thought that I should get some advice,so phoned Moorfields who told me to get down to my local eye unit first thing next morning, and not to drive.

I was told to go to the urgent care eye bit,and when the doc looked at my eye,she said that the new lens was wobbly.I asked what that meant, and she said it could mean major surgery,as they had to go into the back of the eye! Anyway, she would put drops in and then have another look!!! I had 20 mins.whilst they were working to text S and phone D,I was so scared.D said she would come right up to the hospital, bless her.The doc called me in again before D got there, took another look and TG,told me that I was very lucky,it hadn't actually moved. However,Now I have got to be extremely careful,no sudden movements,no bending down,no lifting anything heavy etc.etc. Whew ! D was very angry though that the doc had put me,(an elderly lady as she put it), through 20 mins.of hell, when I asked what it meant, she should have just said," Let's wait until the drops have worked, then we'll see if anything needs to be done "

I hadn't realised just how often I need to bend down,my knees don't like bobbing down ! :(
Big fright this week !

Sugar-free and lacto-free sweets. sweets and

When I am dieting I solve my sweet craving by buying sugar-free sweets. M@S does a good little selection, my favourites being Butter Scotch Drops and also Strawberry and Cream. They do mints too.

A local American sweet shop also sells 6 varieties of sugar free ones. Many people tell me the side effect of the sweeteners in them can have you trotting to the toilet, but I have never had that problem with them and they keep me on the diet.

My daughter can't take anything with milk or butter in it so I sent her a box of Marshmallows from Boomf which can put your choice of photos on them or a choice of designs and sayings. I have sent them to my grand children in Australia as there is no P/P cost. It is The Duchess of Cornwall's brother who started the company.

Do you know of any others ?

What a shame!

So awful to see this video about Hillbrow in Johannesburg, and what it has become - so many broken windows, so much rubbish. I am glad Cape Town hasn't suffered the same fate, but then it is not ruled by the ANC but by Mmusi Maimane of the Democratic Alliance. Cape Town still is the beautiful city it always has been.

Wanted to wish you all ….

A happy weekend in the comfort and joy of family and friends, go easy on the chocolate if you feel you must.

Easter weekend is a bit away here but am off to the North of Greece (on two wheels) with two other couples till Sunday evening - weather forecast not great but I shall grit my teeth and try not to moan through the helmet to helmet communication system (not appreciated by my driver).

Presently preparing my bike box (very minimalist) and had a lot of fun trying to transfer the shampoo, conditioner, coconut oil and cc cream from their original containers into the Titchy ones.

Dogs are now hopefully comfortably housed at the kennels - my lovely Layla was not a happy girl (felt wretched leaving her - first time she wasn't happy to be there - hope she's okay and stays well for the duration).

Have a good weekend everyone. xxx

"Violation of the 'customs' of war"

Can someone please explain to me what that means? Customs not to be confused with the customs of a peace loving country, customs of traditional celebration, i.e., Easter, Christmas? Karadzic has just been sentenced to 40 years plus I believe nearly 20 years after the fact!

Thursday Nosy Post No. 34...and about time too!!

Having been pretty much away from the Forum for a fortnight or more (due to family and health problems...which aren't quite resolved, but which I've come to terms with), what better way to return to the fold than with a Nosy Post!:D

a. Have you ever been to a working farm, either to stay, to visit, or to an annual, organised, "Open Farm Sunday"?

b. If you get a boxed set of CDs, or a set of books or novels, do you watch/read them all as soon as you get them (like I'm about to do with Game of Thrones!), or do you space them out, or ration yourself, to prolong the enjoyment?

c. What was the last thing you got out of your freezer?

d. Do you know your trees? Do you know an ash from a larch, for example, or a rowan from an aspen?

e. When you were a child did you collect free gifts...like those politically incorrect little characters from Robertsons jam, which you could exchange for various little politically incorrect metal badges !! Or the Beatles cards with bubble gum, or the Brooke Bond Tea Cards?

Looking forward to reading your answers, and being part of this lovely Forum again.

My answers:

a. Yes, been to a couple of farm open days. Part of Mr R's job is delivering building materials specifically designed for farms (barns etc.), and he's become quite interested in the industry.

b. See my note re. GoT above!

c. 1lb (or should that be 454gms:)?) of mince for tonights shepherds pie.

d. I'm not bad at trees. I can recognise quite a lot. My Dad could name lots of them (he came from country stock), and he taught me when I was little.

e. Yes, I collected those Robertsons g******gs, and had several badges. I remember I had the football player, and a few musicians. I also collected, and swapped, Man from Uncle and Beatles cards, and World Cup coins from 1966.

Tumble Dryer Dramas

Good morning one and all

Well last evening I discovered my tumble dryer was one of the offending faulty dryers that catch fire. I found scorch marks all over my lovely fluffy towels and so I thought I'd better check the serial numbers etc and lo and behold. After registering my dryer with the supplier they contacted me to tell me that they would assign me a date for service in 10 weeks time but I could still use the dryer even though it was damaging my clothes. I don't think so, why would I want to use a faulty dryer that is burning my clothes etc.

Anyway, today it is raining heavily and looks set to continue throughout Easter so I am not waiting for someone to fix my dryer I'm just going to scrap the one I have and buy a new one.

I'm sorry for the rant but I feel much better now.

I hope you all have a lovely day xxBBxx

Has anyone bought a gas patio heater?

Last night whilst flicking through TV channels and messing about on my Kindle I decided to buy a new gas patio heater. One that looks like an isosceles triangle! I'm just hoping it's as good as they say they are. OH has always fancied one so I thought I'd buy one to treat him. It won't be delivered until around 2nd or 3rd April so I'm hoping we can use it then if the weather bucks up.

We've had gas patio heaters in the past but they've never really lasted and soon get to look tatty. I was just curious as to whether any of you ladies have bought one of these new-fangled types and what you think of them.

Cheers my dears x

Day 18 Alderney

Never been here!

I have this lurking around so an early in the thread random

Alderney is the most Northerly of the Channel Islands and famously has a railway

It carried its first official pasengers in 1854, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Its main purpose was to move stone quarryed from the north of the island to build a breakwater in the south.

During the war, the pesky Germans changed the track to some continental fangled guage and it all had to be changed back after the war.

Little interactive map of the extensive line, ahem

Alderney was considered by Hitler to have huge tactical value. Virtually all the islanders were evacuated in 1940. Four labour camps were set up, one of which was the only SS camp on British soil. Thousandsof slave labourers died - its commonly thought to have been the worst place to be a slave labourer of the four islands.

Kiwi here is the main street, sorry it's the best we can do, it is only a small island

Day 18 Alderney

Good morning Thursday

Checked my phone this morning to get the right day!

Didn't sleep too well last night, first time since we have been here. Think it is because we return home today and, drum roll please, the plumber says he is coming at 9am!

Did a blitz on the house yesterday so just have to put the vac round again, make up our bed for our next visitors and pack the car. Will be down again in May and maybe a few days in April, but not sure about that one. Hope we remember to go via Paignton and put the spanish key through YS and partner's letterbox.

Otherwise not much happening today!

Have a good one
Good morning Thursday

Well this is heartening …….

Have been sitting with the TV on while reading my mail. Head down and concentrating I suddenly realized that I was hearing a foreign language and it wasn't Greek. One of our Greek television channels has created a News Spot called "News for Refugees". It is full of general news but also valuable information and advice (many of them have access to TV in the camps they are in now and also those who are in hotels or being accommodated by Greeks in their homes. It also gives them a weather report which hopefully will encourage them to take advantage of being indoors instead of mucky soaking tents.

So much better than a piece of paper being pushed in your hand listing things you don't want to read or are too tired to. The programme has Greek subtitles so I was very interested and impressed with the content.

Maybe not something you all wanted to hear but I thought it worth mentioning - I think it's encouraging for them. One thing I did pick up was that once moved to accommodation they will stay for 2 months when their individual situations will be reviewed.

For once I feel like congratulating the Media.
Well this is heartening …….

Tracy Emin has married a rock

I find myself without words.....yes, just the once....

I mean a rock, like a stone, not that her husband is her rock. She's married something a geologist would find interesting.....

Woman's bonkers.
