As some of you know already, I had chemoradiation treatment for oesophageal cancer last year. It ended just before Christmas and I had to wait three months before having a CT scan to confirm if it had worked or not. If it had, all well and good, if it hadn't I would face major surgery to remove the oesophagus.
It's been a hard waiting game, as quite a few of you know, and I thought I would have to wait two to three weeks before knowing the results of the scan I had last Thursday afternoon.
However, I rang the hospital this afternoon to see if the scan report had been prepared and was told that it had. The oncologist's secretary said she would book me in for a clinic next week to meet with my oncologist, and confirmed that she couldn't give me the results over the phone. She must have picked up on my crestfallen voice, because less than five minutes after I put the phone down she rang me back (having spoken to my oncologist in the meantime) and gave me the good news I was hoping and praying for....that the scan showed all that remained of the tumour was scar tissue, and that I would not be needing that awful operation.
After I blubbed my thanks to her for giving me the news, my knees literally buckled from under me. Luckily my OH was there to hang on to me : phew !! SUCH a relief....and I know how fortunate I have been to have had it caught at early stages. Not everyone is as lucky, sadly.
I just want to say a massive thanks to all of you who have been in touch with me through emails, PMs, texts, whatsapps, phone calls, Facebook messages etc to offer your support to me / us during this terrible year. It's been really appreciated by both of us and I mean it when I say that the Forum ladies are a wonderful bunch of people.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart xx
Good news ...at last!
