Day 85 Wine festival

Just in case anyone missed it, Strickers posted yesterday

I won't post steps, suffice to say the stepper bank of Strickers is currently insolvent. I have plans in the new year to get fitter again and that involves trainers and walking socks :-)
I am royally hacked off today so even if no one reads this, I will get it off my chest. I've got to have a blood transfusion next week as my HB and platelets are really quite low. Ive got to stop the chemo tablets until I see the oncologist on Friday and my chemo next Monday might be in doubt, drat. I don't particular want it but I don't want to delay it either ... So I'm feeling very sorry for myself right now. Boo hoo.

Chin up strickers, oh you have done. Not surprised that you are feeling fed up and knackered and hacked off. Like the Liz quote, you just have to keep getting through this, and you are doing amazingly well. I'm sure Mr Strickers is treating you like the Queen, as he should.

Well my interactive map has gone wandering off, so we may be a bit more random. however, there's only a bit of the North of Japan left, an area that tourists don't often visit.

Today we are in Ohasama, which was twinned with Berndorf in Austria 50 years ago. With it's hilly landscape and temeperate climate, it's excellent wine-making area and in September they have a harvest festival. naturally, they are willing to re-create it for the stepsisters. Like, obvs, like.

During the festival you can sample the various types of wines made in Ohasama, as well as some local food specialties. Around the festival grounds you can find the usual festival foods, takoyaki (octopus balls), yakisoba (stir fry noodles), kakigori (shaved ice with syrup), chocolate coated bananas and many others. One stand that surprised me was where they sell grilled meat from cattle that was fed grape skins to tie in with the wine festival. Among the food stalls there is an area where you can grill your own meat and vegetables, they sell ready made platters for that. That gives it a kind of picnic atmosphere, people can sit down and relax under a canopy. At the entrance of the festival ground, they sell a sample pack of Ohasama's best wines, if you've never tried their wines, it's a good way to start.

You may have to work for it though

They called it Edel Wein as a nod to Austria

Steps, humph - one of those days.

One of DFDS's boats broke free onver the weekend which meant the Gothenburg sailing on Monday was cancelled - two trucks and four drivers stuck till Thursday, so we took the Ghent boat. I ask you. Meant then that we exceeded our daily limit throught the tunnel, but the Very Nice Eddie at Eurotunnel sorted me out. So to speak.
