A Prefecture is the equivalent to a county in Japan. This is the top most county on the main island of Japan.
Fortuantely as it's a bit chilly, it's a good primer for next week's hunt for santa. Sunny, are you OK driving through this?

This is Lake Towada Winter festival
The Lake Towada Winter Story festival is a winter tourist attraction on Lake Towada, held annually in February ( though they brought it forward for us ). A specially designated site is built at the Yasumiya area of Towada lakeside, featuring a grand snow statue, an igloo bar, and night illumination of the Otome no Zo statue.
Visitors are entertained by the night illumination as well as the tunnel of light, created using 160,000 LED lights. The winter fireworks, which go up at 8:00 every night during the festival, amaze visitors with a unique sound and show when compared to summer fireworks. The low humidity of the crisp winter air causes the booming fireworks to echo sharply from the surrounding mountains.
Lake Towada is actually in a volcanic crater,t he largest in japan and the twelfth largest in the world. Yes apparently it is active but the last eruption was a 1000 years ago, so that's OK....
These are the Sannai Maruyama ruins, where there is evidence of human settlement over 4000 years ago.
Bit of a rush, I have a lot to catch up on today after being away for four days. It looks like a beautiful county, unfortuantely no time to investigate it properly.
