Friend's husband has died.......

We were very close when our children were little but have drifted apart. My younger daughter (who is also my friend's goddaughter) has tonight seen a post on Facebook by my friend's daughter announcing her father's funeral.
We are all about the same age (early fifties) and this is the first person of our generation that I know to die and I don't really know what to say or do. They were a very self-contained couple, had been together since they were fifteen and it's unimaginable.
Can anyone give any advice?
