The end is nigh

As some of you know from the morning post, my dad was taken into hospital again this morning due to a fall out of bed at the care home. Had a small cut on his head and when consultant from A & E saw him, it appeared dad had hurt his arm, but its been x-rayed and is ok.

He voiced his concern over dad (haven't we all) and asked if the palliative care team had been in touch. Said no as he has been receiving end of life care since May at the care home. A lady later rang from that team and explained now that i think dad has reached the point of no return and he is being sent back to the care home, but with a syringe driver inserted which will administer morphine, anti-sickness pills and painkillers, to keep him less agitated and peaceful. A District Nurse will visit him daily. When GP and Nurse feel its needed, a Community Nurse from the Palliative care team will also visit him there.

So finally, all medical staff are on board and agree with our wishes, and dad will now just receive the care he needs in his venture down that slippery path. He is at the same care home as mum so thats what he wanted to be. Sad that she won't be aware of his condition, nor when he passes.

The support Ive received from medical staff/care home staff has been fantastic, so caring and understanding. Im sure thats help us to be at this stage when all is in the hands of the gods now with my dad.

I just wish him comfort and peace now until the time finally comes.
The end is nigh
