Was just wondering how easy it is for you'll to find what you are looking for in your handbag of choice for the day, week, year. Thought about it after Rosa's thread re losing or forgetting where things are.
For years now I have had issue with the fact that most of my handbags have dark linings and everything in the way of purse, key holder, card wallet, sunglasses case etc is dark in color - a real pain when you're in a hurry to pay for or find something. I've often said too that I'd love to patent a handbag with drawers so I could put labels on them but then boxed shape handbags would be a bigger pain knowing me, drawers would either fall out including everything in them or at the very least either bang my legs or knock somebody's eye out if I continue to carry bags with a shoulder strap.
Which leads me to something else - I carry my bag on my right shoulder and although I've tried frequently can't get used to carrying it on the other side. I totally don't like carrying it in my hand partly because I think it's probably the easiest place for someone to whip it away from me and it means I can only put one hand in my pockets which is a bad habit enough and dangerous if you trip - you can't get your hand out easy to stop yourself if you're about to fall flat on your face due to dreadful paving and road surfaces (Greek authorities think pavements are a waste of space in most cases so if there is one of any shape or size it's usually sufficient to create a tumble. Carrying my bag on my right shoulder however creates another problem too - I have a wonky right shoulder and lots of neck pain (age/arthritis/a shoulder where socket and joint choose not to meet as they should!) which is why I should carry my bag on the other side.
I've tried long strapped bags hung diagonally over my body from my left and right shoulders but they continuously bang into me (I have a bouncy stride) or become trapped in shop doorways or on occasion hook on to door handles. Removing them from my person usually means accidentally taking my specs with them.
I have also tried back packs but end up hanging them with one of their straps over my right shoulder (back and neck pain again) as taking them off and wearing them again, opening them, I find a real pain in the butt or on occasion have been scowled at by an unsuspecting passer-by as I swing them back to base behind me, just missing their jaw line!
What's to do? What kind of handbag is your preference?
The only reasonably practical suggestion so far for me is to at least make the contents easier to find. I have a red key wallet, a turquoise card holder, a green passport holder, a light tan purse, a beige diary and a pastel sea green pen which thankfully slips through a little loop on the side of my diary - haven't invested yet in a change of sunglasses box but I might look for something patterned but not striped or polka dot as that in itself just might be cause enough to fall over just by looking at them.
Seriously considering employing a porter, a donkey or an elephant! LOL xxx
