I'd never heard it before, and I found it strangely moving.

She was one of a kind. She was inclined to be difficult, she was feisty and independent, but she was also very generous, with a wicked sense of humour. The family won't be quite the same without her.

Surprise visit yesterday!

Yesterday, we had a lovely surprise - our son, DIL and Esther gave us an unexpected visit. She had changed a lot in the last few weeks since we have seen her, showing more understanding, and even drinking out of a glass, which surprised me! She can also stand for a minute or so, so she will soon be walking I think. She is fourteen months old. So full of busyness! She really made me so very happy yesterday.

Surprise visit yesterday!

Unplanned Monday in with my cats, laptop & TV for company

What a load of trival and mindless stuff there is on TV! Well that's my personal opinion some may disagree.

So I decided to come on these forums and thankfully Chilla and Pauline are talking about the real world and of things that matter like family.So where is everyone else that usually post on here?

For various reasons my plans for going out today with a close and dear friend had to be cancelled.
I won't bore you with the details.

Instead of enjoying her company today I am reading some of the forums posts and catching up on my book reading.

My TV is off now as was only on like I use the radio and for company and background noise.

I know I'v eposted before on this subject, but wondered what other people have been doing and seeing.

Went to see Michael Portillo last week again. He's a very easy speaker to listen to. he always has Q&A at the end of the night and someone asked what he thought of Donald Trump. In short not much, but he did say that whilst he'd been filming the latest American episodes of his Railway programme, one of the producers had worked with Trump on the American version of the Apprentice. The produce had said that he couldn't understand the way Trump is, because when he'd worked with him, a nicer, more charming man that knew everyone's name and asked about them. The Trump he sees on telly just seems a world away from the man he worked with.

Also saw Blythe Spirit at the weekend, that was very good as well, nothing like a bit of live theatre.

Also got booked a play called Tinned Goods aboaut women during the miners strike, 2 ballets, an opera evening, but it's more popular arias. Not surea bout that, I think i prefer an opera with the whole story, but I guess it's difficult getting bums on seats for opera. Also seeing Rory McGrath and Paul Sinha, from the Chase - not having a telly means that a. i don';t know much about them and b. I have the time to go and see them:p. Additionally, but not at my local theatre I have tickets for Bryan Adams and James with the rather gorgeous Jack Savoretti as support.

i particularly liked 4 & 9, the men's sheds idea, where blokes can do bloke things, with woods and tools. i think I'd be happy there, particularly if they could manage something oily and greasy:o.

But I like 9 as well for a long term project. i've often thought it's illogical to be so wedded to your house if you feel lonely.

I'm feeling a bit steppered out. I nearly didn't carry on at the start of the year. And we have dwindled in number somewhat ( bit like the forum....)

So if anyone else feels like it?

And I'm going away again this week, so Weds - Fri I won't be around.

As an aside it's Miss Till's 'birthday'. Well it's 12 years since I found her on the mean streets of Garston, thinking as I took her to the vet s/he would say that the kindest thing would be to let her go.....wrong there:rolleyes:. Vet said she was about 2 then, so we keep this as her birthday.

Good morning - anyone proposing today!!

You will note I didn't say what kind of proposal!!

Bank holiday here in Andalusia so everywhere will be closed. I noticed there was a sign on the big shopping centre saying that would be open but it is quite a drive away and OH wants to go skiing.

Real T shirts and thick anoraks weather here but better than the UK at the moment from what we hear. Yesterday it went up to 28 degrees on the terrace but once the sun went off it, the temperature dropped and when we went out for dinner last night (our first successful one for a long time - i.e. decent food!) we needed not only a jumper but our anorak as well.

You will be pleased to hear that OH has done his sums and doesn't think it would be worth doing holiday lets here. I could have told him that but you know men ..... !!! I am delighted needless to say. We are now wondering whether to drop the price again but not sure it will make much difference.

Just looking at another lovely sunrise. It is later here than home and as we face east, get it in all its glory. I tried putting a photo on a post the other day but don't think this pathetic internet access can cope. We will be home on Thursday.

Sorry this is just a quick dash. Have not had time to read the posts for a few days, so just wanted to explain my absence! Our D is home from NYC for 1 week, weds to weds and its been manic but lovelly.
Have cooked myself into a corner with a big buffet do tomoz for 25 assorted family and friends. D has been out and about, catching up with friends and relis. I had 8 for dinner Weds eve, various droppers -by, and out for meets in between; I'm kn...cked.!

Still, its lovely to see her and I'll get back in here soon.

Saturday? Sunday? Hot day!

All good plans to keep daily journal gone to waste! Temperature 39* yesterday and 38* today so totally brain-addled!Wednesday was chill out day and supermarket shopping - oh so cooooooool!

Thursday was Yanchep National park and 40/50+ wild kangaroos up close and personal. Two large family groups ate/played in front of us for ages, unbelievably in middle of day! Saw beautiful captive koalas in natural enclosure, then drove to Burns Beach for coffee and sunset.

Friday, very cultured! Spent couple of hours in WA art gallery, then headed for China Town in vibrant 'alternative' Northbridge. Ended up having great coffee n salad in air-conditioned 'Dome' cafe bar.Friday evening was something else! Lady in the Van under the stars in Kings Park, complete with bean-beds and picnic! Love Maggie Smith but have to sat didn't enjoy film ...

Today, a lazy day planning Great Ocean Road and Indian Road trips, but did go to Old Perth Road evening market at sundown and bought hippy-style silk wrap around skirt, for which OH bought me beautiful matching earrings. Aaah.Amazing that we could reserve an outside table at the pub, have a drink, wander off round market, then come back to same reserved table, have another drink and order meal!

I love Emily Barker - singer/songwriter who composed & sang theme tune for BBC's Wallender. Turns out she's singing at that very club next Friday. AUD$10 at the door, so guess where we're going next Friday?????Tomorrow, a bbqed Sunday roast with 'beer can chicken'. Loving it!!!!

Good Morning. It's Saturday.

Morning all.

It's not often I start the morning post, but my sleep patterns are all over the place at the minute, thanks to taking Duloxetine for the nerve pain in my neck, and worrying about Clutterbug's move, and Mr Rosa's Aunt's Funeral on Monday. I've been taking my meds at night, but I think I might switch to mornings, to see if that helps with the insomnia. I've left Mr R snoring in bed, and I'm downstairs on a recliner chair, wrapped in a blanket, with a cup of tea, surrounded by greyhounds, who are also snoring...but more gently than Mr R!

Just a domesticated day for us today; the weekly supermarket shop and a visit to our lovely local butcher. I've got to take up a pair of black trousers to wear on Monday. It's quite a rarity...trousers are usually to short for me, but these came from Long Tall Sally, and are about an inch too long. Mr R wants to get the car washed and hoovered, and he needs to take the dog-guard out of the back. We're giving someone a lift to the funeral service on Monday, and they might not appreciate sitting in the back of the car, behind bars!

I've got a bit of Charity paperwork to do, in preparation for a meeting on Tuesday but, apart from that, and the usual dog-walking, it's a fairly average Saturday.

I think I'm going to try and get an hours sleep, now, before Mr R surfaces, so I'll catch up with you all later.

Happy weekend everybody

It's still dark outside here, even though it is 7.20am. But I am sleeping better here so don't care.

Had a great time catching up with some neighbours here yesterday. We haven't seen them for a couple of years as our trips out here haven't co-incided. Seems the other british neighbours have all fallen out with our immediate neighbours. We thought we got on okay with them, even though we have nothing in common, but they have been saying nasty things about us behind our backs too. Don't know what. Shame but we get out here so seldom, it shouldn't make any difference really. I guess that's living in a block of flats for you!!

Off to find some gravel today for the front terrace. We have stripped out the watering system so hopefully that will be the end to the odd horrendous water bill!! We thought we would head for Malaga and have a mooch there. Just need a few things to tied us over till we go home.

Weather has been lovely but it was chilly yesterday as the wind really picked up and it was a cold one. Also rained last night. Let's hope it settles back down again till Thursday.

I Do Like a Bargain...and I Got One!

I've been looking for a smart black coat to wear to Mr Rosa's aunt's funeral on Monday. I saw a lovely Windsmoor wool, single-breasted coat, with a leather trim, in the sale, reduced from £249 to £179. It still seemed quite a lot, so I decided against it but, on Tuesday, I went and had another look and it was still there so decided to get it, especially as it had been reduced again to £124.00.

To cut a long story short, like an idiot, I'd gone into town without my credit card, so the shop agreed to put it aside for me 48 hours.

I went and collected it yesterday afternoon and, when I got to the till, it had been reduced again...to £79.20!!

Things like that don't usually happen to me, so I was absolutely chuffed to bits.

This is it...

It's the first coat (as opposed to a jacket) that I've bought for years. It's a classic, fits beautifully, and will last for years...unless, of course, I manage to lose some weight!!!:)

Thought I'd start the ball rolling this morning.

Work as usual today, it's why i don't post on the morning thread, I'd say the same thing most days!

Four o'clock Friday!

Well, it isn't now but it was when I got up.

Long story short, it's been a very difficult and head-spinning week, with mega daily problems from one of OH's daughters (even driving him crazy), helping another one buy a house, trying to buy our own freehold on Puffins (as is everybody on the site with theirs) so getting about 5 emails a day about that, and readying our own house to go on the market and trying to find a new home for ourselves about 21/2 hours drive away from here. Oh, and jumping through legal and insurance hoops to let Puffins out as well/ And keep up with a course I'm doing in Literature and mental Health. And trying to choose a menu for the 10 people we have coming for dinner tomorrow.

How on earth did I ever go to work? BUT I'm feeling very excited now because we have finally decided A) to sell the house ourselves, using an online agent and B) we have chosen which one, so at first light I shall be on the phone, shouting "Press the go button" to the agent who came out on Tuesday! Rah. Step one on the jpurney to the coast :cool:

Monday night ,after Sunday!

I had thought they were going to move her to another hospital but this turned out to be rouse to keep her mind occupied, she spent most of the day packing ready to go. She continued to chat away to herself. Later that afternoon they put a cafiter in.Madelaine was still making her trips to the B/ R , . thinking my glass was dirty she asked me if she could take it ,she did and she washed it but l didn't get it back! Then she came out of the B/R, ,(we had a curtain partly pulled across between us.,),,saying ,,'madam ' in a confused voice l peered round the curtain to see blood over her nightdress, she had pulled her cafiter out! Rang the bell telling her to sit in her chair but she went back, got a flannel and tried to clean the floor ,when help arrived. Sat her down and replaced it. A nurse explained to me they were going to give her transfusions, of various kinds. , that this would be going on for some 2/3hrs.They must have decided to take the risk.
It took 4nurses to do this ,two on the drip and two keeping her occupied. They promised her a chocolate if she was good, they then, joked , conjouled, laught and sang. By 11.00 she settled, but continued to talk. I was vaguely aware through out the night that she was still talking but l slept till 5.00. They were changing teams so I went out into the corridor and sat out there talking to them inbeween their jobs. When they started to remove various strappings and wash her l went back to my bed.l went to the loo and in passing her she looked at me and smiled. But a very subdued lady.
We were given breakfast and rather than wait l decided to go and wash when l passed her by her head had fallen so that her chin was resting on her chest. Because of the obvious difficulties in washing l didn't come out for about 20 mins she was in the position as before l looked and saw she was still breathing but didn't think it would be long. I just got back to bed when the chief physio and the physio working with me arrived. The CP used to call Madelaine reblochon. Anyway they stopped by her chair and he gently lifted her head with his finger and when he released her her head just fell back, he repeated it looked at us and said , " no response' . l said she's been talking non stop for almost 2days & 2 nights let her sleep!.He then called her " reblochon " and then his attitude changed, at that !moment my surgeon arrived. Within minutes the room was full of people!! They resuscitated her, eventually moving her elsewhere.
Later when talking to my physio during s break, l said that in my opinion they should have let her die, her age, her obvious fear of the op,; and the fact that her two children didn't really want to know. Plus heaven knows what that nights drugs had done. He said that's what the "team" felt. But the DR's ,from else where? thought otherwise.

So my stay, arrived Tues, op; on Wednesday, sick on Thursday ,Friday, and Saturday then Madelaine on Sunday and Monday . Home on Tuesday!!! Not a stay l will forget in a hurry!!! Pauline

I was going to post on 'health' but on reflection it's more 'life' ,particularly for those of you who have difficulties,either with parents, GP or GU/A.If does go on a bit so maybe it will have to be split.
On the Friday, this lady of 94 was admitted to have a shoulder replacement, she had had one done a few hrs ago. She came across as an amazing lady with it,looked 15 yrs younger.She came in with her sister who stayed to help her with her lunch, she needed it cut up. Sunday the daughter came again at lunch time but left shortly after with her ' companion' l had friends visit after lunch and as they left my OH arrived. This lady whose name is Madelaine, sat in her chair ,,'chatting' getting up and going to the bathroom quite regularly but not so strange gjven her age. As Tony left she was trying to put her glasses on the table he took them and placed them on the table. She then fell into a dose. When she woke she seemed to be confused. She asked if her daughter had been ? I said she came at lunchtime and helped her with her meal.
She then said she didn't think her D wanted to visit. I felt the same. She then got up and went into the B/R came out and looked around looked out into the corridor and then back into the B/R. When she came out she was a bit agitated and speaking very quickly and l found it difficult to understand but picked up that she seemed to have forgotten or lost something, happens go us all, suggested she sat down and maybe it would come back. My mind tunneled into forgetfulness idea. She went back out to the corridor when she came back she was tapping the walls getting more upset, started shouting at me obviously frustrated sat in her chair and started crying.( l was unable to get out of bed without help,) So l rung for the nurse. When the N arrived l said that l thought she had lost something but l couldn't understand what. The N calmed her down asked her what was the problem? She had lost her wardrobe!!! In retrospect maybe her wardrobe at home. Though she still chatted we had normal moments talking about our C .After dinner she went back to her mood and wandering, started shouting again, the room was dirty, l wasn't talking to her,etc,:Out of my depth l rung the nurse again, she was calmed down and was not ready for bed.This was about 8.00/8/30.this continued till 3.30am. She was in and out ,shouting , locking herself in the B/R for up to 2hrs at a time! They put her into bed pulled up the sides . the nurses in my opinion were amazing they had this very old, but very fiesty women to deal with. As soon as the nurses left she very carefully got herself out of a 10in gap at the bottom of the bed!.Shut herself into the bathroom again! When she came out around 3/30 she claimed she was going to find a hotel .They marched her back insisted she got into bed telling her she was disturbing everyone once in bed they walked out turning off the lights and firmly shut the door! Within seconds she was out of bed ,screaming that she was terrified of having the op; Having been thru it before she knew what to expect. How sad was that! This time they were confronted by an obviously frightened woman not a Confrontational fiesty bomb!!!
By now 5.00am l hadn't been asleep and was feeling pretty awful. They made me some tissane and explained that they were unable to give her s calming injection as it could do her some harm mentally, due partly to her age and drugs she was taking.
The nurse who finally settled her lay on her bed talking to her then kissed her good night . this ends Sunday night ! Monday night to follow!!!! I did say in part one , the next part was a different ball game.

One of my drivers just phoned up to say that he was right by the railway tracks and the Flying Scotsman was due to come past, could he stop. So, like yes.

Well , not anymore.

With the new kitchen worktop, it overhangs and makes putting powder in the draw difficult, so I've gone to those funny little things

Don't really like them, I used less detergent before, so a lot cheaper and clothes didn't semll detergenty.

But the question is, when i do use them, I put them in the drum first with washing on top, but every time, I always get one piece of clothing that has some sticky residue stuff from the plastic left on it.

What am I doing wrong?:confused:

Morning ladies

I was just wondering if any of you have come across this as it seems totally bizarre to me......:confused:

My D has been having terrible trouble with her hip, which comes and goes but can be very painful. She's been trying to get it sorted as both times she's been pregnant, it has got worse (she miscarried both times), so has seen the doc several times and had several x-rays, the upshot of which was something pulled he thought and she needed physio. That was months ago and she has been waiting ever since.

The other day, the physio phoned her up for a phone analysis??!! What exactly they can tell from that I have no idea and basically having been on the phone for ages, they couldn't........or am I missing something and is this now what they do does anyone know??.

She was asked what she thought was wrong so she explained what the doc said and was told, how did he know, he isn't a physio.....!! She then said it had got worse when she was pregnant and explained about the miscarriages, whereupon the physio then went on to tell her she had 2 kids and could never cope with that, quizzed her about what was being done amongst other things and thoroughly upset D. She also wanted to know what D wanted from physio.......doh, surely a no brainer, to be out of pain would be a start !!

I, needless to say was furious as I'm very protective of D at the moment and want it sorted, but the upshot was that they would have to see her so she has an appointment, but half an hour was wasted on a useless phonecall that could've been a proper appt.

Reports came in of a foxhound from a local pack running loose on the A55 in North Wales at around 03.00 yesterday.

Two officers tried to catch it, but were unable to do so, and one of them got bitten in the process. It wasn't possible to completely close the road and other methods of catching the dog were considered, but all of them had problems attached.

Despite adoring all dogs, I'm not getting the outrage and hissy fits going on. Sometimes unpleasant actions have to be taken in real time. Bothe police officers are dog owners and I doubt they would have taken the decision lightly.

How lucky are we? In March the two Giant Panda babies are going to emerge into the spotlight to meet and greet humans ( bad luck pandas) They were born last autumn - basically I want one of my own, preferably about the 50 - 60 day mark. Not much to ask!

Also in March - OK we can come back, or maybe they can bring it forward, yes that seems more plausible - is comicon.

Welcome to Thursday

Wonder if I'll beat the clock this morning! Awakened by hungry and cross legged dogs. Would like to have stayed all cosied up on the sofa but when Canine Nature calls, smart as they are my dogs just can't make their own breakfast or open doors!

Lovely fresh morning (Brrr) but not a cloud in the sky so weather wise think it's going to be a nice day.

Have to make a shopping list for OH's special diet which begins on Monday. Quite a turn around for him and not as many 'forbidden fruits' as I thought there may be but a bit of pre planning is required. He will need to eat every 3 hours. He's not allowed yeast, natural or chemical (includes beer and wine), only two cups of coffee a day (that will be torture for him), no salmon or trout, no corn products, asparagus, kiwi fruit, strawberries, plums, grapes, peas and no cheese (he loves cheese) or milk derivatives. Every meal has to be followed by two glasses of water. Portions are to be "Nuveau (?) Cuisine" restaurant size (I guess the Diet Determiners don't know about portion sizes here LOL) and if he is still hungry he can have another two mouthfuls. I'll start him off on Monday as we have guests at the weekend and he'll want to top up on what he loves one more time before he begins the restrictions.

He's going to love me as further punishment will be "No Smoking" in the house ASAP. I did such a lot of cleaning yesterday (the real McCoy, elbow grease, put your heart and soul into it kind of cleaning). Okay I didn't wash walls but am trying to rid the house of that pong that is nicotine and winter doggy. Still have to do the curtains (OMG no - help, they're huge and fiddly). The weather as it is improving will make our bad habit bearable outside instead of in - I hope!

Need to clean myself up too as last night I fell on to the sofa whacked, so I'm off to clean me shortly! BTW managed to break a kitchen chair yesterday. Slipped and grabbed it - result - I stayed upright, the chair back hit the floor and snapped into two pieces - must have hit it pretty hard so I'm glad it was the chair and not me. Have put it in the workshop down below so we'll see if OH can return it to it's former glory on his return. It's about 20 years old and part of my first dining set which was eventually going down to the hall to join it's relations there (Buffet and Vitrina - windowed cabinet) when I can afford a kitchen set. Would really like a round table in the kitchen instead of a rectangular one.

This was my first time l had been in a general hospital, before l had been to private clinic's, ( snob,snob, !!) no not really.!
Most people ask are you going to Montpellier a big town, or Millau a sml town, when you say Millau their eyes go up ! So it makes you hesitate when you can choose. We choose Millau as Montpellier is a 250klm trip or Millau 40mins.visitors or no visitors!!!
I was very impressed with the standard l found.

I arrived Tues afternoon, after being shown my room l was left to settle in. After my OH left they checked me out. I then had some tea later dinner was served, agh!! Undercooked hamberger on a bed of cous cous.Food in hospital seems off where ever you are ! No more about food but thank goodness for soup !!!
After dinner an anthesist came to explain the procedure, they found someone who spoke English, l was going to to be first to go , l would be then moved to recovery before going back to my room. The surgeon then came to see me. Whilst in recovery l had to move my toes and lift my leg something that l couldn't do for days after the first time
It was quite painful for the first 24hrs though l was under pain killers.
The following day l felt quite nauseas though l was on an anti-nauseas drip. Though l had only had one pill at that time for anti-inflamatory l believed it was that ,l had the op under local antithetic which had never been a problem before but what did l know! I noticed my fingers and wrist by the catheter was swollen so they came and moved it to the other hand.

Meanwhile I was feeling worse and not eating just having a bowl of soup. So Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are nothing. They eventually agreed it was the pills and stopped them.
My poor OH was very concerned.
Saturday, l ate very little but started to feel better Sunday.
Thursday took my first steps with a zimmer but nearly fainted! Also started physio.
Friday was much easier and walked the corridor and more excruciating physio.
I had no pain after the first 24hrs except for when I'm excerisising.

In general: : there are two people to a room with an en suite, (toilet and sink).
You each have a bell for calling for help, which usually comes within mins.
Anyone who needs help with their food ,cutting or eating are given help.
Everyone is washed every morning ,impressedbed wash or if possible at the sink
Room floors are washed everyday and table tops are wiped after each meal.
My surgeon came to see me each day Monday to Friday.
At the weekend a general Dr does the round with the ward nurse.
Our floor was specifically for care after surgery the 'team' were all very nice and seemed to get on very well, you often heard them joking and laughing.
I came away very impressed .

My second blog will show another view not bad but which will make my visit all but unforgettable. Being ill from Wednesday to Saturday ,little sleep for one reason or another then the weekend !!! A whole new ball game.

As I have been suffering from a lot of water infections over the last year or so in fact since just before Christmas seem to have them permanently I have to have a procedure where they look into your bladder with a camera.

Just wondering if any one has had this procedure and how long it roughly takes and any after effects. Don't like looking things up on the internet as I can scare myself. Not too long to wait and am having it next Monday as well as a scan of my kidneys.

Kid or Kid not …….

What joy - drove off to my lesson this evening, took the bend on the dirt rack and behold six new born baby goats obviously taking some more first steps. I could quite easily have jumped out of the jeep and 'snuck' a couple in the boot - nobody around but their Mums however who would have been none too pleased. I was none to please with their Mums either as they obviously hadn't got round to road safety training yet!

I just melt when I am met with baby goats - do you think I could train them to lay eggs so we don't have to (or rather I don't have to deal with all that comes with chickens?) On the weekend when we went to dine with our friends along the road, it was to help them eat up the Cockerels they'd condemned to "the other side" and we had to pretend that one of them was not their Cockerel but the one a friend had brought who attacked my dear pal as she hung out her washing then had another go at her when she went to feed him and his girlfriends - the cheek of him. We were prompted when we arrived but said friend at the table almost let the cat out of the bag to her daughter who would have been terribly upset if she'd thought it was their own and wouldn't have eaten it!

Need to take my camera when out and about tomorrow - daffodils, baby goats, spring flowers in abundance - I shall be trigger happy!

Evening all back home.

Got home just after lunch and sent straight to bed and slept about two hrs. My first stay in a French general hospital quite impressed. So many people say go to Montpellier not Millau. As one is a 250klms round trip the other 40mins ,so for the sake of my OH ,who could then make daily visits we decided to stay local. Plus they have recently carried out a new technic for hip replacements that can mean only a 24/36hr stay.
I was very happy with my stay and the various bits that go with . I'm going to write a 'blog' about the hospital and my thoughts and zn extra bit about a week I'm not going to forget in a hurry but on the health posting so not to bore anyone not interested.

For my first post to the forum I would like to discuss some discoveries I've made about low cost interiors.

I have recently started offering interior design consultancy more as a hobby than anything else, for people I know who already trust my judgement. I started to research design ideas and found that many of my suggestions were high end and not cost effective. After some research I discovered that there's an expansive range of high quality low cost interior materials on the market, you just have to be prepared to uncover hidden gems. One of my favourite first stops when looking for homeware now is here www.qdstores.co.uk, I have even bought myself a number of items from their range. The quality of everything that I have had from here has been extremely good, especially curtains. What does everyone think? Are high end results at huge costs a thing of the past now completely?

Residents close to the Green Bank Telescope, or Great Big Thing as it is know locally, have by law to forgo many modern appliances that are commonplace now.

The telescope listens to the noises of outer space and is so sensitive ( be careful what you say about it ), it needs peace and quiet, so much so that when some strange distortions came across the airwaves it turned out to be battery operated fans in the gift shop.

Well, hello!

Left UK Monday of last week and had a couple of days stopover in a chilly Dubai - not my favourite place. All that ostentatious wealth and obsequiousness is a bit much for my good old humble council house upbringing! But we had a good rest and an interesting walk round some of the Souks - I love the hop on/hop off buses lots of cities have.

Then it was the long 11hr haul to Perth on a half empty plane, so no queuing for the loos! Arrived 2a.m on Thursday morning, bed at 4a.m, slept till 11 a.m and been raring to go ever since. Not a sign of jet lag thanks to our magic 'No-Jet-Lag' homeopathic pills!

Friday, explored Perth city centre, then a fabulous welcome meal from daughter and partner at a sumptuous restaurant in King's Park, Perth, with views across the city. Sunday, wineries, chocolate producer - can't hold wine well at 10a.m!!!!!!!! - then lunch and more wine in the sun.

Yesterday was high drama with the washer blowing on the hot water tap, but that got sorted (!) and then the afternoon was spent ambling round one of the trails in Kings Park, learning more about the indigenous peoples of Perth. Great fun, too, hopping on and off the free city buses!

Today we went on a 2 hour 'Convicts and Colonials' guided tour of Fremantle. Informative and 9,432 steps on the old pedometer! Mosied around Freo, drank exquisite coffee and sauntered back with early feet. May take it easy tomorrow, and we may not. Temperature due to shoot up to 37* on Friday, so may leave the easiness till then!

Can't wait till Saturday evening! Going to see The Lady in the Van at the open air cinema in Kings Park - BYO drink and food!

Hotel wasn't good enough for us I decided - well, that and they decided we were unruly. I told them Maisie, for the price we were paying, you don't expect to pay if you have a guest in your room.

So we moved over to Casa Loma, I've explained our interest in all things historic

It was only built in 1914, a new arrival in castle terms. It's been restored along with the grounds and well worth a visit.

You've seen this inside and out probably it was used in the X-men films

Returning to over a 100 years ago, we can visit the Black Creek Pioneer Village

Containing 35 buildings, it showcases the early settlers to Canada with actors wearing costumes from the time

12625 steps yesterday, smug mode on.

Saw Michael Portillo yesterday and he was very entertaining, went with Lynsai and Jackie( some numbers ) and a person that I know in real life! There are some.

Will post some more later on, there's a lot to do in Toronto.

Buenos dias - it's Tuesday!

Buenos dias girls from sunny Spain. Gorgeous day here and I have to spend a good chunk of it in the hairdressers getting my roots done. I didn't have them done last week as I keep having this mad idea of going "au naturel" but I haven't got the guts ha ha! I just had a wash and blowdry instead. Today they are definitely being taken care of! After that I have to do a supermarket shop and this afternoon I have a young man coming to see me! He is one of my neighbour's nephews who wants to practice his English wih conversation classes. So Margaret looks like I am joining you!

Feeling .....well, to be honest

Just found out that a friend of over 50 years has suffered a stroke.
The thing is, I have been ignored, demeaned and isolated by this lady and certain 'friends' over the last 12 months. I've been advised by the person who told me an hour ago not to do anything. No 'Phone calls, flowers, emails or in fact any kind of contact. Seems I have been a topic of conversation in my old lunch club of school friends. I am totally gutted!!!! I have done nothing wrong apart from challenging one particular frenemy who was making my life a bloody misery over a year ago. Since which time I have been on the outside as most have taken the other side, those who have taken mine aren't nearly as vocal. My OH is totally and utterly on my side who knows all that had been said by me and others.
Needless to say, I am totally wrecked tonight. I have been nothing but supportive throughout all these 'friend's' problems over the years. Giving bed and board and some sort of sanctuary when they needed it. Oh well, sorry to offload but I felt I needed to vent as I feel so badly treated.

Recently I've had some really fierce tremors in my hand when holding things,have dropped food off plates etc and was really scared that I was developing Parkinsons.Saw the GP this afternoon,he said that the good news was that it wasn't Parkinsons,the bad news was that it's my age !!.Apparently,with the P's,the hand shakes when it is at rest,but with "Essential Tremors" which is an age-related thing,it's OK at rest but happens when you go to hold something or even can effect trying to do up buttons and zips.Yikes ! Hope it doesn't get that bad,how will I paint and sew ? Getting old is not for wimps ! :(

Shocked to read this!

We all know that Katie Hopkins is renown for being quite outrageous and opinionated in her views of various people and situations which has never won her many fans, but on the other hand you have to admire her honesty.. but not the tact.

But Ive just read an article that she is now undergoing surgery on her brain to try and cure her epilepsy which has plagued her since she was 19. She said the odds aren't brilliant and having young children, that is one hell of a decision to have to make and I admire her bravery.

The reason Im interested in this story is that about 2 years ago, my son was given the option of having similar surgery to try and cure his epilepsy. He is 39 and has been plagued for 20 years for this, now relying on medication to keep things on an even keel.

The consultant gave him the opportunity to have surgery but only gave odds of 50/50 and if he did survive, could still have problems and have to stay on medication. It was his decision to make and thankfully made the one we all agreed with. No way and not worth risking.

I wish Katie all the very best and hope she pulls through and the op has cured this horrible illness.

Quite a Responsibility

This morning I met the Minister who is going to conduct Mr Rosa's aunt's funeral, next week. Mr R couldn't get any more time off work, so I saw him on my own.

We went through the Order of Service, which Mr R and I had already discussed, and then I was asked for some background about his aunt. She wasn't an easy person, to say the least, but I gave as much information as I could, without dwelling on that. As she wasn't actually my relative, and I only knew her in her later years, it was a bit complicated.

There will be other family members, and friends, at the Service, so I just hope that they're happy with what's said. We gave them the option of helping arrange things, but no-one really wanted to, so we've done most of it on our own. Someone else did choose the entrance and exit music (both of which Mr R and I dislike:(), and they want to read a tribute, but all the actual organisation was down to us.

I really do feel quite a responsibility, and I'm quite nervous about next Monday. I just hope we've done her proud.

Belated Happy Anniversary to me

Wasn't here on Thursday, hence the belated.

25 years ago on the 18th Feb, I sat at my dining room table, thinking , 'oh what the heck ( other words available ) have I done?' Shall I ring me now ex boss and tell him it's all been a terrible mistake and I don't really want to work for myself?

I didn't and now I can barely remember what it's like to work for anyone else.

I must say Mr S-P is getting a bit grouchy. I was on honey moon for nearly two days and neglecting you lot, which face it honeymoons and billionaires are not as important as Stepsisters. I told him, he's been sulking. If it wasn't for the sea-plane, he might be on warning. What's wrong with coming back in at 4 a.m.? I'm not a cosy night in front of the fire girl - pffft!

The tall building int the above photo and the first one that we are jumping off is the CN Tower. Until 2010 it was the tallest free standing structure in the world. You can take the glass fronted and glass floore lift up to the sky pod - suggest you dine after the jump, just saying.... The 360 restaurant revolves to that you get stunning views all round the city and takes 72 minutes to complete one revolution. It has the worlds highest wine cellar - that's tempted you.

Good Morning

It's here already!

Sun's up, wall to wall blues but a bit nippy out yet! Feel like I've been up for ever and my posterior is numb from sitting here. Do want to move but not sure in which direction today. Had a nice relaxing weekend - had to leave my cooking of yesterday's meal to dine again with our friends who insisted we ate with them. Lots of gardening 'good life' talk at the table - it's that time of year again. Don't know about green fingers but I definitely have itchy fingers, really wanting to get stuck in to all things bountiful. My plum tree has blossomed and looking round the garden this morning everything fruit bearing is budding.

Not sure what I want to do today but outdoors seems to be beckoning more than in - keep ignoring the ironing (pile is growing) and I would like to wash down my kitchen. Telling myself it's not too bad and could probably wait but - depends on the light. I think I shall go pull down the shutter on the window above the sink, it will make the place look less grubby and me feel less guilty about turning my back and walking away! I've flicked the switch on the dishwasher so it at least sounds industrious in here!

Think I might drive out to the outlets - couple of shops there I enjoy browsing - sort of interior decor bits and bobs. Can stop off at the garden centre on the way back, perhaps bring another tree home. We're trying to fill the part of the plot that can't be designer garden - because of it's size - and who knows, with any luck we might even be able to eat something from what we plant there. OH began building a fence round the veg plot last Summer but wasn't able to finish it - all the supporting posts need trimming along the top to make them uniform - they're metal so I can't do it. Once it's done however I'm thinking hang some flower containers round the sides - encourage pollination or be charged at by buzzy bees and things that might bite me while passing the time there LOL!
