Leaving work

A year ago I wouldn't have thought I'd be writing this. After working for over 40 years, I had to give up my job due to the relocation of the company I was working for and the increasing need to look after my mother. I left work with a heavy heart, knowing I would miss my colleagues and friends. As it was impossible to find part-time employment at my age (60+ - there is definitely age discrimination out there whatever they say!), I reluctantly took early retirement and started filling the hole my work had left. Over the last few months, I've taken up photography again, am learning Italian and cake decorating, have qualified to volunteer to teach healthy eating, help out at a local hospice, and we've joined a walking group and a film club – all in between looking after my mum! When did I find time to work! My income has obviously dropped massively but most of the above are fairly inexpensive, but interesting, hobbies and we've made a lot of new friends. So if any forummers are facing redundancy or dreading the thought of retirement, I'd really recommend getting some new interests in place. You never know what the future holds!
