Do you find today's grammar confusing?

I found this article interesting. Since I left the UK a thousand years years ago (and hardly ever speak English nowadays) so much has changed and sometimes I get confused. What I learned at school seems to be stuck in my head. For the life of me I cannot say "Me and Mr M went to the cinema" or "I was sat reading a book," which seems to be the 'norm' in today's world. Do you find this difficulty, or have you just decided just to go with the flow?
