Grumpy with Australia

Well some twonk in government anyway.

There's a memorial service for the Batle of Fromelles, near Lille planned for later this year. It was widely considered a preventable massacre at the time. Feild Marshall Haig had been advised by his own top brass to not go ahead witht he attack he had planned, but he chose not to listen. 5153 Australians were left dead or injured. There were 1500 British casualties. The Oz authorities are banning any British families from attending the service.

The official line is that is to focus on the Australian casualties adding, 'This is not to diminish the role of the other nations but simply a recognition of the Australian focus of the event we are organising'.

I can get why you might be miffed, but the people who want to attend lost relatives and had relatives return home injured. Surely that is a reason to make it open for any nation to attend to pay respects to whomever fought then? i thought we'd got over such partisan shows of petulance.:(
